Dual citizenship after baby is born?

Does anyone know anything about this? I'm English, babies father is French.

We are no longer together, but expecting a child and he will play an active role in the child's life. He currently lives and works in the UK but may return home to Paris in the future, his family live in France.

I know we are leaving the EU soon so I'm concerned a visa may be required to visit France or it may become more difficult. I want her to be able to visit him/his family freely in France and have the option to live there when she's older and has left home if that's what she would like.

Can I apply for dual citizenship after her birth even though she doesn't live in France based on the fact she has a French father? Or would I need to apply for a French passport? I'm clueless

I'm not an expert but he needs to apply for the nationality (and therefore the passport). Once you have the UK birth certificate he needs to apply for a French one to go in the livret d'famille.

You aren't eligible for the nationality yourself based on the information given.

It's a tedious process and can take months.

Yes, you can apply for dual citizenship for her. You won't be entitled, but she is.

I have one English parent and one French parent and have dual citizenship but whatever you do, do it as soon as you can as the rules are changing drastically with Brexit and I'm having to fill out a LOT of paperwork

Hi there!! I'm French and currently pregnant and my partner is English. Both of you will have to fill up few forms....
But I agree with @grimupnorth1 to not wait to long to do this... you never know what new law they might come up with.
The website is in french uk.ambafrance.org/Naissance-22334 but it has all the information and files to load in order to register your baby as a french citizen. You will need to have your "certified copy of an entry of birth" dated less than 6 months and the father will also need to request the similar paper to his city of birth. I would also recommend to ask for a first passport for her as soon as possible so later on she will only have to ask for a renewal which will make it easier.
Good luck!!! I will start those soon as well... and can't help but remember how much french love their paperwork....
