Nursing clothes

So due with my second baby in June, and determined this time to find easy access clothing for breastfeeding, I really struggled last time and just infuriated me as I never got round to getting the right clothes, so forever lifting up my whole top or getting flustered and found it hard to feed easily.

So this time round I want to be very prepared for this and will be last of my worries, however I keep looking and nursing tops and they are so incredibly expensive, really annoying, has Anyone managed to find a good reasonable price clothes either in shops or online sites? Where they don't cost half a days wage for one item lol. TIA X

I'm still BFing at nearly 9 months and have never really needed specific nursing clothes apart from vest tops to wear under normal tops. Then the normal top is lifted up but still have the cover of the vest underneath. Also use the material from the maintop to help be discreet!

CannyLad · 30/12/2018 23:49

H&M have some that are ok but in the end I went with vest with whatever loose top over, much easier and being two separate layers my tummy stayed covered! Honestly I was much more bothered about anyone seeing my belly than my boobs.Grin

rosydreams · 30/12/2018 23:50

just wear a button up shirt with jeans thats what i did does not have to be maternity.Sainburys have some nice blouses

Casmama · 30/12/2018 23:54

I got lots on eBay - many second hand which were in good condition as often not worn for long

ChloMaloe · 30/12/2018 23:59

ASDA do nursing clothing at good prices online. Also new look and H&M?

hammeringinmyhead · 31/12/2018 04:53

Mine are all here, mostly in the sale.

Not amazing quality but they are good value!

stealthbanana · 31/12/2018 05:41

Like others I mostly did vest tops under normal shirts. H&M have good ones.

AlocAcoc · 31/12/2018 08:36

Nursing vests under normal tops is probably cheapest and very discreet, but Bshirts are amazing and well worth the money.

NameChange30 · 31/12/2018 08:43

Check out the FB group "Can I breastfeed in it?" for lots of ideas.

I bought a few Bshirts which were definitely worth the money as I've worn them loads.

Apart from that I've mostly done OUOD (one up one down) with a stretchy vest top under a tshirt. I lift the T-shirt up and pull the vest top down.

whatsnewchoochoo · 31/12/2018 08:56

Mothercare do some. I bought loads of nursing clothes but 2 years later (still BF) I just do 'one up one down' it's SO much easier

spugzbunny · 31/12/2018 08:58

I have a lot of nursing vests (H&M mainly) that I wear under t shirts or jumpers and do the one up one down method. I also have a couple of new look dresses that I love.

Marmite27 · 31/12/2018 09:00

I’m quite large chested and couldn’t get on with specific nursing clothes. I just use my normal stuff. Not even an extra vest.

Gwlondon · 31/12/2018 09:02

ESPIRT is not too expensive. Boob or www.milkernursing.com/shop/frontpage.html but you might think that is expensive. I know. It was a nightmare. Good luck.

Eminybob · 31/12/2018 09:03

Look on ASOS they have a few bits. I have some dresses from there. Also the wish app have some tops and hoodies etc. But size up and expect to wait forever for shipping.

thismeansnothing · 31/12/2018 09:09

I found nursing tops expensive and still a bit of a faff.

Loads of cheap thin cami tops from Matalan underneath my top. Pull that down, top up, voila, easy bf without the faff

Madratlady · 31/12/2018 09:12

Either things with buttons so you can open the top few or a vest under your regular top and do top up, vest down.

gothicsprout · 31/12/2018 09:21

Chico Jacks has nice hoodies with good zip access.

I also highly recommend the ‘Can I Breastfeed In It’ group on Facebook though - lots of ideas for both normal clothes and nursing specific, and you can see what things look like on real people of all different sizes. I got quite into shirt dresses with my first DD, sometimes with a vest top underneath, and jumpsuits were great in the summer/on holiday.

PixieCutRegret · 31/12/2018 09:24

I brought some lovely nursing dresses in the sale in jojo maman bebe.

Last year sainsburies did some lovely jumpsuits and dresses with functional zips and buttons, so keep an eye out there nearer the time. Because I don't like to have a whole boob out I wore crop tops under.

mummytogirl · 31/12/2018 11:13

Thanks ladies so many great ideas, I was definitely going to get more loose top, but was also to just get a few reasonable priced none faff , easy access tops. Last time round I'm guessing I was very new to the idea of wiping my boob out a lot to feed and found myself getting very hot and irritated, but since this will be second time round I'm hoping to be much more relax about it all but also love the idea of easy access clothes too, thanks so much for the ideas which I'm going to take all on board Grin

I mostly just wore normal clothes that were stretchy (with a reasonably low neckline) and boob came out over the top - depending where I was feeding, I'd sometimes drape a muslin over my shoulder to stop feeling too exposed. Cheap Primark vests are great for doing the "one top up one top down" method too - initially I never had much success with that method, as had a June baby and I was SO hot that I didn't really want any extra layers, but it worked well in the colder months and was also great when feeding a fidgety toddler. The Facebook group mentioned above is also fab for being able to see what "normal" clothes work for others.

I did have a few nursing specific clothes - all from ASOS - but generally nursing clothes are quite frumpy and are frequently also double as maternity wear so not always flattering with no big bump.

Chico Jack's is a good specialist nursing clothes manufacturer, but I have never tried them myself as put off by the cost of postage and returns unfortunately.

eBay is also worth a look for secondhand nursing clothes, can pick up some bargains if you keep an eye out.

Dustyzest · 31/12/2018 13:40

ASOS have so many tops and dresses in the sale right now and with Klarna you don’t even have to pay unless you decide to keep them. I’ve just done a bulk order!

applecatchers36 · 31/12/2018 13:48

For a nursing wardrobe I wear vests with a shirt over, Uniqlo have nice cheap flannel check shirts for this time of year.
For smarter/ work clothes either button through shirt dresses or wrap dresses with cami or vest underneath. Find it's more economical to buy things you will weather post nursing and so these type of clothes work well.

Russell19 · 31/12/2018 14:05

I have bought these in different colours! About £12, nice colours and very comfortable.

Does the one up one down thing work if you are large chested? I am around a 34H and ger bigger when feeding - am struggling to see how it would work
