Where can I try on a good range of Maternity gear?

If this pregnancy sticks then I am determined not to live in bobbly leggings and ill-fitting eBayed clothing this time around.
This is probably my last pregnancy and I am determined to look half-decent and to be comfortable!
Can anyone recommend high street shops that tend to stock a good range of Maternity gear?
I seem to remember H&M were ok years ago, but Dorothy Perkin’s had next to nothing and it wasn’t the best fit.
Any recommendations?

I generally get it sent to my house by next or whoever and then send stuff back! x

Clementine19 · 30/12/2018 19:56

I hadn’t even thought of that! Do you courier it back or is it post from the Post Office?

Frankly H&M is the only place that actually seems to consistently stock maternity wear in store! New Look have some things in larger stores, or Mothercare, or specialist boutiques, seem to be the only options for in store shopping where I am in the South East. Everything else is online which is a pain!

If you order from H&M they will pick up returns from your house by courier free of charge. I’ve found their tops and jumpers a really nice fit and good quality. Topshop are good for jeans.

snoopy18 · 30/12/2018 20:31

So far I’ve brought stuff from H&M and Dorothy Perkins - quality has been fab and I can still be my fashionable self 😁

Sunshinegirl82 · 30/12/2018 20:53

Jojo Maman Bebe usually stock most of their maternity clothes in store.

Seraphine also have a few shops in London and I think Leeds.

Otherwise I usually order things from New Look, H&M etc do the click and collect in store, try everything on in the changing rooms and return what doesn't fit immediately. Annoying to have to buy it and then return it but means you get to try everything on!

HettieBettie · 30/12/2018 20:58

Most places have that thing where you can either get it picked up free or drop at a corner shop/supermarket for free return 👍

I've mainly shopped online but did manage to try some stuff on in H&M and mothercare.

Clementine19 · 30/12/2018 22:39

Thanks for your replies everyone. It’s looking like H&M are still my best bet. @Sunshinegirl82 I may have to try your plan of Click and Collect and try in store.
I’m also going to give JoJo a go.

I ordered a tonne of stuff from ASOS last time, was quite handy to try at home and send the rest back.

Croibeag · 30/12/2018 23:31

H&M have been brilliant and a novelty to actually try on in the shop. I discovered Gap quite late but love their stuff, comfy and fits well. Always wait for the 40 to 50 per cent off offers though, which they email regularly! And can return by free post or in any Gap shop.

Anyat212 · 31/12/2018 00:16

I also second New Look and ASOS, the Katie Piper selection is really good too (but again all online). I’ve bought a couple of nice dresss for occasions on there.

Came across these maternity pyjamas on New Look if they were any interest - I’ve just ordered a pair, total steal for £7 too!

All mine was New Look in store, and ASOS or Happy Mama Boutique online. I recommend ASOS Ridley jeans.

cr1479 · 31/12/2018 04:51

I got my maternity stuff from ASOS. It was all really nice & good quality. I didn't have to send anything back, but if you do it's really easy and free to do! X

letsdothis123 · 31/12/2018 05:37

Randomly I've found Asda the best & best value. I don't shop in Asda but use their click and collect service for the clothes. Everything I've purchased has arrived the next day and fits really well (generous sizing). Xx

Clementine19 · 31/12/2018 07:15

Loads more ideas here. I never considered Gap or ASOS and had forgotten about Asda maternity. Will check out HappyMama too.
@Anyat212 thanks for the link! They look really comfy.

I ordered ASOS jeans last week and they're awful, so ill-fitting. I got some fab jeans from Matalan this week for £14. And some nice tops from H&M.

TheSubtleKnifeAndFork · 31/12/2018 12:39

All my new maternity wear has been ordered online from H&M and ASOS. Free delivery and returns, so nothing lost. My local H&M does carry some maternity wear, but it has a tiny selection compared to online.

Jojo obviously always has stuff in their stores, but I find them quite expensive TBH.

I tried ASDA once - mat jeans and leggings and they were awful - and I had to pay for postage as I don't live anywhere near a click and collect location. Although I did get a nice Christmas dress for a few quid.

Clementine19 · 31/12/2018 20:36

@TokenGinger Oh no on the ASOS jeans front; there was a recommendation upthread as well😕 I really struggle to find jeans anyway. Weird shape: massive rugby playing thighs but small hips.
Am going to try H and M and perhaps check out Matalan too.
I love Seraphine stuff, but I am definitely more farmer’s wife than sophisticate😄

I love the jojo maman Bebe tops, so comfy and gorgeous colours. I actually wear my favourite one to work!

kenandbarbie · 31/12/2018 20:53

Nowhere!!! You'll need to order stuff and send / take back if not right. Even shops that have an extensive range online don't stick hardly anything in actual shops eg h and m, new look, next.

Clementine19 · 31/12/2018 21:03

@ununsualcolours I am going to check them out, thanks😊

@kenandbarbie FFS why don’t they though?! It’s not as though pregnancy is an uncommon occurrence. I was in Sainsbury’s the other day wondering why they don’t do a maternity basics range? Some plain tops, tights, leggings etc.

kenandbarbie · 31/12/2018 21:08

I know it pisses me right off. Even m and s who supposedly try to cater to all women only sell maternity underwear and nightwear.

TokenGinger · 31/12/2018 22:37

@Clementine19 I have huge thighs too, and a smaller waist! The Matalan ones are fab as they have Lycra in them, but they don't go baggy at the knees either. I'm going to get some more from there x
