Hi everyone,
My parents want to take me and my toddler on holiday in May, probably to the Canaries somewhere (yippee!!) My little girl will be almost 3 and I'll be about 27 weeks pregnant.
Anyone have experiences with a foreign holiday while pregnant? Any tips? Or reasons why it might not be a good idea? We did a similar holiday last year and it was really lovely. Parents are great with DD.

Yeah I’ve done quite a few holidays abroad at various stages of pregnancy up to 34 weeks.
Apart from keeping cool and drinking plenty I don’t think you need to do anything in particular!

Just check your travel insurance would cover a premature birth and the baby - most policies would cover you but not a baby (different patient).

Went to Crete at 29 weeks and had a lovely time! Got insurance through Ravenhall as they covered care for the baby if he was born whilst there (most insurers only cover you so no good after 23 weeks) which cost about £50 for me and partner. Airline needed a letter from GP just to confirm number of weeks and no pregnancy complications. Go for it!

Check with the airline before booking some don't allow you to fly at certain weeks but think you'd be okay. Travel insurance is a big one as people have mentioned. Also GP my charge for a letter I think mine said £20.

Depends how you’re feeling. In my first pregnancy I could have done it and found it lovely. In my second, I don’t think I’d have fancied a holiday unless a very chilled time was planned. In your case, if it is lounging by the pool plus childcare on tap, it feels like it would be quite relaxing overall and probably easier than a usual week.

Thanks everyone :) I'll look into insurance and also check cancellation policy. I'm sure it'll be a lovely break but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I hadn't considered as it would be a shame to book then have to cancel or have a crappy time

Had a wonderful time in turkey with my DS who was 3 at the time, I was also 29 weeks. Worst thing about it was the flight as i was so uncomfortable but I had a beautiful holiday.

I'm planning a holiday for when I will be 25-27w. I have no concerns about going pregnant but am paying extra for really good insurance with unlimited medical cover and repatriation.

I went to lanzarote at 27 weeks. Ensure your travel insurance covers you and take your notes with you just in case. Be a bit careful in the heat. Check that docs the airline needs. Mine didn't need anything before 28 weeks. All should be fine!

Honeybee79 · 05/01/2019 23:17

Sorry, check what docs the airline needs, if any. Eg fitness to fly certificate.
