Had my 12 week scan on friday just gone, my little bubbas insides have been found on the outside. Doctors are thinking its one of the above things in the subject field. Theyve also told me that if the organs are connected someway to the unbiblical cord it can be corrected at birth, but theres a chance no organs are connected. I find out tomorrow weather it will be good for the baby to go full term or weather it would be best to terminate now. Has anyone had any experience in this with their babies? X

@Holliex I am 22 weeks and found out 10 days ago baby had exomphalos. I’ve had to have amniocentesis as it can be linked to further issues but all have come back normal. So what will happen now is baby will have an operation after birth. Im going to meet with the drs for more information. PM if you want to. X

I'm a nurse who worked on a specialist ward that managed babies with these conditions for a few years (although I left the ward about 7 years ago). Outcomes can be so variable, but your baby will highly likely need some degree of surgery and hospital admission for weeks if not months after birth. And as PP said there may be related complications (particularly with exomphalus). Establishing feeding and reflux are common issues and long-term intravenous nutrition is a possibility. It will be tough and I know what I've said sounds very grave but they were still happy families with beautiful babies. I'm also aware of some minor cases of gastroschisis that just had a few weeks in hospital and very little in the way of on going complications. Best of luck to you. Please listen to your doctor's advice over and above anything I've said. Xx
