Concerned about posture & back trouble

I’m 27 (ttc) and have used computers for many years and I seem to naturally slouch and I’ve developed rounded shoulders and “text neck” so ultimately have very poor posture. My spine is quite curved when in a relaxed state. I try to sit up straight when I notice I’m slouching but find it uncomfortable to do so for a long length of time. I’ve now started with daily aches and pains in my neck and upper back and shoulder. I know pregnancy can have an affect on the back and I’m concerned if I fall pregnant the affect it’s going to have on my back. Can you see a doctor about posture? I really don’t know where to start in terms of improving posture. When I practice standing straight I don’t even know if I’m doing it right?! And I know that sounds silly! Any advice is appreciated as I’m trying to prepare for the future.

A chiropractor can address plsture along with the aches and pains. As can an osteopath or physio. You can also consider a posture training technique called the Alexander technique.

Good luck op!

There is also a posture called Brüggers relief posture, which I find benificial. You can search online for it, it may be a good place to start for anyone looking to improve posture.

I am the same, very curved spine, I've found strength exercise has helped my posture, mostly in my upper back and shoulders but a little in my lower back too. I'm now pregnant and I'm a bit worried about the combination of the two as you are, so would be interested to hear if anyone has had issues with this.

Oh and I have started to get pain very low down in my back if I lie down after an active day, I used to have it when I was about 10kg heavier and am getting it now even though I've only gained 2-3kg. So don't know if that's linked.

Are there any pregnancy yoga classes near you? Id really recommend these. Yoga is the best for improving alignment. My hospital also offered free group physio where they showed you basic yoga positions and food seated and sleeping positions.

Oh sorry didn’t read your message properly, definitely go to normal yoga classes then! It works wonders for posture!!!

Definitely get to a regular yoga or Pilates class ASAP, I was the same as you in my 20s and though I still have a definite tendency to slouch, I took up yoga years ago and my posture is so much better. pregnancy yoga is much gentler but has helped keep my posture better & lower back pain at bay. So I thoroughly recommend.
