Positive induction stories

Hello ladies, I'm getting induced next week at 38+3 due to high blood pressure and reduced fetal movements. While my consultant has been lovely and after lots of discussion with her I'm happy that this is in both mine and my baby's best interests, this isn't my ideal or how I pictured having my first child. If anyone has positive induction stories to share I'd love to hear them. Thanks xx

Thanks @Babbi, you tend to hear horror stories from everyone rather then when things go smoothly!

I’ve had 2 babies now. First was all natural- absolutely hated to whole labour experience. Everything seemed like a last minute reaction to what was going on.
Second birth was an induction. It was calm, controlled and quick! Perfect.
I’m pregnant again and am really hoping for another induction

I was induced with my first due to reduced movements after I'd planned a home water birth. I was obviously disappointed but it was fine. I just had the pessary, no drop or epidural. It was about 7 hours from waters going to baby out with one hour of pushing. I was encouraged to have the lights down, use upright positions etc. It was totally fine.

My second was induced at 38+2 for reduced movements and large for gestational age.

As my 2nd I had the gel rather than a pessary - there's a fair few internal exams and you have to go on the monitor before/after the gel goes in.

Basically nothing happened for about 15 hours until the gel kicked in, hanging about on antenatal (hopefully you'd get a private room so your DH could stay as it's more planned than mine was). Built half a Lego car and did some cross stitch while waiting for stuff to happen.

Labour eventually kicked in, had access to drugs in early labour, a ball, encouraged to have a bath etc. Labour itself was very similar to my first in that I dilated quickly once I started and I didn't need a drip or my waters broken. Slight rush up to delivery as it ramped up really fast (over shift change) when it got going but better than in a car/ambulance to hospital (1st sent home not really in labour, 2 hours later was ready to push so spent 1.5 hours of labour in the car out of about 12 hours in total so was glad to avoid that!

Much easier recovery than my first (natural) birth of a smaller baby at very similar gestation. Had epesiotomy but I reckon that was because of 1st birth stitches from tear, not induction. Overall much better birth experience than my first (natural) birth.

I was induced at 39+6 due to baby supposedly measuring big. Was originally going to get the balloon catheter but as I was not dilated at all they decided to give me the pessary. Got the pessary at 7pm, contractions started around midnight and then waters broke at 5am. Then went to labour ward and had just had gas and air for the rest of labour. Ended up needing a drip to slow down contractions as they were causing babies heart rate to drop. Due to this ended up with an episiotomy and ventouse but really wasn't too bad and had baby at 10am. I expected to be waiting around for days due to other stories I had heard about being induced but this definitely isn't always the case! Good luck don't be too put off by the idea of induction! Smile

Thanks all, it's always nice to hear some positive experiences, definitely think it's the prospect of being stuck in hospital for hours or days with not a lot happening that I've been hung up on! Guess I'll just have to take plenty of entertainment :)

I was induced when my waters broke but I didn’t go into natural labour by 24 hours.
They tried giving me the pessary and it did absolutely nothing so the next morning I went on the drip.
Not going to lie it was painful after a few hours as they turn up the drip every 30 minutes but I had gas and air to get me through the 0-6cm then I had pethidine and an eventual epidural, I couldn’t have done it without the pain relief as the contractions were so painful however I was able to relax in between them.
It was 6 hours from drip to 6cms then 6 hours from that to delivery which includes about an hour pushing. I ended up with forceps unfortunately and a small tear and cut however overal it was a fairly positive experience. I was dreading an induction but it went as well as I suppose it could considering baby would not budge and my cervix was so high and closed and it being my first baby who was quite large (8.11)
Even though it wasn’t a “quick & painless” example I still feel like it was positive, as baby and me were both fine and happy.
