I'm 22+2 and wondered what your top 3 purchases were for your baby? Thanks in advance 🙂

I consider these absolutely essential they saved our sanity.

Chicco next to me crib. After a horrific two weeks in a moses basket i broke down and brought one and she slept between each 2 hour feed for the first time! 7 months in and still in it.

Swaddle Muslin cloths the small ones were useful but you can do so so much with the big ones!!

A wrap sling - dd wouldn't let me put her down for the first three months. I got a wrap sling after 5 weeks and finally ate lunch.

welshweasel · 22/12/2018 11:37

Perfect prep, sleepyhead and dummies!

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 22/12/2018 11:37

Ergo baby sling
Angelcare bath seat
H&M breastfeeding vests-they have a built in crop top and meant I didn't need to buy any nursing bras

TomThumb1 · 22/12/2018 11:39

An Amazon Prime subscription.

Sling
Muslins x 1000
A nice changing bag motivated me to go out and use it - essential for sanity!

KeysHairbandNotepad · 22/12/2018 11:41

Baby bath support
Perfect prep machine
Cheeky wipes

tattychicken · 22/12/2018 11:41

Lansinoh nipple cream, muslins, breastfeeding pillow

Sammy867 · 22/12/2018 11:42

They were quite cheap for me looking back.

  1. I bought a cheap fleece blanket from ikea £2. I put it in the car seat and cut out holes for the straps. Fleece won’t tear or fray so it meant I could wrap her up in the car seat without needing coats etc on and the straps fit nice and snug. We used this up until she was able to swap car seats and it was so cheap and easy or I could have bought one for £40 ish and it would work there same
  1. O ball. She played with this silly ball until she turned around 2. Easy to grip and hold and provided her with hours of entertainment. She learned to crawl chasing it and walk and to play football by kicking it. Think it was around £3 from ASDA
  1. Jellycat rabbit. I picked a toy that I could easily replace if it went missing. She’s on her 10th or 11th now. We lost one on holiday, one got disgusting, the dog got one etc but it meant I could always have a spare In The house so when one went missing. And she HAD to have one to sleep we always had a spare. Theyre easy to buy from anywhere and all of her friends have them too for the same reason

Sling
Muslin cloths (take whatever number you think you will need and double it!)
A changing station downstairs as well as up

Nothisispatrick · 22/12/2018 11:46

Sleepyhead, Next2me crib and muslins. DP didn’t understand why we needed so many but now he does.

One thing I definitely shouldn’t have bothered with was any newborn outfits that weren’t sleepsuits. Just not worth it.

AwdBovril · 22/12/2018 11:48

Sling
Lots & lots of muslins - M&S ones are nice
Bedside drop side crib (to be fair, this was a loan)

Sarge17 · 22/12/2018 11:49

Thank you everyone 🙂 lots of things already on my list but a few extras to look into. Amazon Prime made me laugh!

Somersetlady · 22/12/2018 12:01

Electric breast pump
Breast feeding pillow
Laniosh nipple cream.

You get the theme here so it may or may not be of help but if you do want to feed the lanisoh cream is a must!

BusterGonad · 22/12/2018 12:02

Muslin cloths are the best, use one to wrap over the top part of the crib, around the mattress, when baby dribbles etc remove and replace rather than having to wash the whole sheet!

RicStar · 22/12/2018 12:03

Baby carrier, feeding cushion, sleepyhead.

Stephisaur · 22/12/2018 12:20

Nappy bin (we actually have 2 and they’re in the rooms we hangs him in most. They’re a godsend)

Muslin cloths

Keep cold reusable water bottle (breastfeeding is thirsty work and I forget to drink otherwise!)

SilverBirchTree · 22/12/2018 12:22

Cloth nappies and wipes- saved a fortune not to mention the landfill

A lightweight (just in case I drop it) water bottle (that I can open with one hand) for breastfeeding.

Netflix subscription.

SnuggyBuggy · 22/12/2018 12:25

Sling, lightweight blanket (duvet was too hot) and lanisoh

TerriB84 · 22/12/2018 12:28

An Amazon Prime subscription

This. It was a lifesaver and I can honestly say it was the best thing we did.

IrregularCommentary · 22/12/2018 12:38

Matchstick monkey for teething

Breastfeeding pillow

Amazon Prime - you will really need that next day delivery sometimes!

user1493413286 · 22/12/2018 12:46

Bouncer chair
Really good quality muslins that stay soft after several washes
Lots of cushions to support while breastfeeding

BusterGonad · 22/12/2018 12:48

A flask to use when our and about for formula, I used to leave it to cool and put it in the flask at exactly the right drinking temp (10 years ago) now I realize that this was wrong, but it made my life so much easier! Confused

TakingtheLeap · 22/12/2018 13:22

No advice as I'm currently pregnant with my first, but what a super useful thread starter, OP! I'm taking lots of notes...

Grumpos · 22/12/2018 17:42

Decent nursing bras (M&S ones far the comfiest for me)
Dummies (helped with his latch surprisingly)
Properly fitting nappies - we started with Aldi bc 1) cheap 2) seen many, many recommendations for them however they constantly leaked and we wasted several really nice baby gros and vests due to leakages and explosions. I swapped to the pure pampers and leaks are minimal. It may have just been the fit as I know lots of people use Aldi. Basically if you realise the brand you’ve chosen isn’t the best fit then change them, otherwise you’re going to lose lots of clothes!

What do people use all the muslins for? I bought so many and hardly use them, the majority are still washed and ironed in the drawer. I’ve just a couple for when I take him out to lay under when I change him but honestly I just use bibs and wipes for any sick related mess. I love muslins but I must just have a very tidy baby.

EssentialHummus · 22/12/2018 17:51

Sling (and a visit to a sling library!)

IKEA Gulliver cot - about £60, works as a "next to me" cot, then drops down to work as a conventional cot, then you can take the side off and use as a toddler bed. I cannot comprehend why anyone would buy anything else - it is perfect.

Lansinoh
