I know the standard stuff, ginger nut biscuits, sickness bands etc.. not having much luck

I am pretty much willing to try ANYTHING at this point. Whatever worked for you no matter how weird or wonderful please help a girl out!

EAT

(However this can make you fat)

You will have to make a choice.

Lemonade. Slightly flat

Nightmanagerfan · 22/12/2018 11:23

Gosh it’s awful isn’t it. I think it depends on the person but what helped me was:

Eating carbs every two hours (oatcakes, toast, cereal bars) even if it meant eating in the middle of a work meeting
Eating simple carb based meals eg pasta and cheese, baked potato
Avoiding soup/liquid food as it made me sick
Avoiding green veg
Drinking apple juice/lemon squash - ice cold
Sleeping when possible!

Hope that helps. It will pass though to warn you I was still being sick at 22 weeks

Sarge17 · 22/12/2018 11:25

Sleep was the only think that worked for me. I was lucky enough to have afternoon sickness, and no other DCs, so early nights for me! Good luck 🙂

The passage of time...

For me morning sickness is the worst part of pregnancy and childbirth. Give me a day of labouring over a day of morning sickness any day!

Littleraindrop15 · 22/12/2018 11:28

Gaviscon dual

Hollyandtheiveee · 22/12/2018 11:36

Have something carby before even getting out of bed. The sickness bands helped a bit. Lemon ice lollies really helped. Iced water. It’s such a horrible, weird, heady feeling. Really sympathise

WeeBean · 22/12/2018 11:37

If it's really bad don't hesitate in going to your GP for tablets, I've been on 3 different kinds with varying success. I'm 14 weeks now and it finally seems to be settling a but but I found Lucozade Sport original really helps (not fizzy), especially when you feel you can't take water. Also Ryvita Crackerbread and little jelly pots, I've pretty much lived on those three things for weeks. I've also found granny smith apples really good cutting them into slices seems to be better. If you're struggling with liquids try ice cubes or even freeze some of the Lucozade into ice cubes. Ice lollies are also good, especially the fruit pastille ones. Also if you're struggling with excess saliva I found wine gums really good. Grapes may also be worth a try, just remember to wash your fruit first, strawberries helped me for a while too.

Not all of that is very nutritional but if you're struggling to keep food and liquids down then in my opinion it doesn't really matter what you're having as long as you're having something. Everyone says little and often but it really does help!

If you're really struggling there is a great hyperemesis support thread, it's really helped me through a pretty miserable 9 weeks of all day nausea and frequent vomiting. I really hope it eases for you soon!!

The only really effective thing for me was acupuncture.
I tried it during my 4th pregnancy as one of the midwives in my team was qualified. It worked very quickly and I highly recommend it.

lstef · 22/12/2018 12:16

Lucozade when it first started, as couldnt eat while feeling sick, that helped. then carbs carbs and more carbs, cereal, pasta, cheese, baked potato, toast, fruit, couldnt face protein or veg at first then managed it later on.

Then full sugar coke, ever so slightly flat but could tolerate fresh - best tasting thing ever for me - ha, and helped settle my stomach when I felt sick.

Then it became intermittent and when it came back it was really bad at 12w by which point id had enough so I asked for meds, doc said to take for 30 days and that has helped a lot.

and rest rest rest as much as you possibly can, doing too much made me feel a whole lot worse.

Yep, the only thing that works for me is eating a lot and staying still as much as possible. I'm going to be massive Blush

Jummynbean · 22/12/2018 14:20

For me it's been about finding the right food! When I first go sickness, pickled onions always did the trick! Used to take a jar to work with me. Haha. My symptoms left me for a week, and the nausea has returned and the pickled onions aren't helping. Luckily, I found that quiche Lorraine is what I need, better than any ginger tea 😂. Just go shopping, have a walk round, put what ever you fancy in your basket, and once your done, take out the less appealing items. Your sure to find the 'cure' in there somewhere hahah. ( I have never bought quiche in my life) best of luck to you!

Blondcat · 22/12/2018 17:14

Another vote for eating here it was the only thing that helped. Started with ginger nuts and crackers but managed to get by with just a couple of rains or grapes to try and curb the weight gain a bit. Definitely easing now at 15+1 only really nauseous when really hungry now. Massive relief after so many weeks off all day nausea.

mumoftwo1988 · 22/12/2018 18:34

Not much advice as I'm in the same boat but cold food like sandwiches.. can't stand hot food atm the smell is still lingering from the kids tea 🤢 also keep full iv failed on this today and it's been rough

Spargle · 22/12/2018 18:45

Half a chicken stock cube (Kallo is best, IMO) dissolved in a cup of hot water makes “soup” when you can’t really eat anything. I’ve found it has made me feel less bad on multiple occasions. You could also put it in the microwave with some egg noodles or rice noodles if you needed some actual carbohydrates. Some people also swear by pot noodles, but I can’t have them.

Tic Tacs were the best mint for me. They are small enough that they don’t feel like an imposition. I eat three at once. They have saved me many times.

Jummynbean · 22/12/2018 20:23

@Spargle, it's funny you should mention that about the stock cube, had mad cravings for anything warm and salty (please refrain from crude jokes 😂). I thought it has something to do with my low blood pressure 🤔 What's yours like?

Spargle · 22/12/2018 20:38

@Jummynbean I’ve not really craved stock cube water - it’s just been the only thing I could face a few times. My blood pressure actually seems higher than I’m used to -115/70 ish. If you’re craving it, though, it is likely to be very satisfying! Just sip it while it’s still very hot to check you don’t need to add any more stock cube before it cools down!

(Having said that, now you’ve mentioned it as a tempting thing, I’m starting to think perhaps I might like some... Dinner hit the spot, but the hunger doesn’t stay away for very long right now)

33goingon64 · 22/12/2018 20:45

I liked fizzy water with lemon

ihatehoney · 22/12/2018 21:48

Try taking vitamin B6- cheap in boots. It regulates hormones which are supposed to be the cause of morning sickness apparently. (Baby's hormones which you're not used to)

Hairgician · 22/12/2018 22:55

Toast or crackers with dairylea.
Cornflakes with hardly any milk.
Last time i lived on the wee custard pots, the lowfat ones with couple spoons of apple sauce in.
Crisps. Salt and vinegar.
Coke. Fill a glass with ice the pour over. Use a straw. Let it go flat. Good for settling your tummy. Always given it as a kid when sick.
Few tips i came across also which help- dont lie down after eating, try not to drink while eating. Little and often, even if you feel sick. Hunger makes it worse.
Avoid anything greasy/ high fat content as will take your digestive system ages to break it down.

Nat6999 · 22/12/2018 23:36

Eat little & often, ignore the urge to eat a massive meal that you really fancy, chances are you will be throwing up before you know it, stick to plain foods, I lived on plain boiled rice, plain pasta & dry toast for weeks. Always have something in your bag, a plain biscuit or a Tupperware box of bits you can nibble, keep hydrated, flat coke or lemonade help, Lucozade if you can stomach it, just anything to boost your blood sugar, avoid anything that smells there is nothing worse than smelling food & feeling sick, if you can get someone else to get your food ready & just put it in front of you it really helps, try to keep off fatty foods, plain carbs are best, if you want protein things like slices of chicken breast or fish grilled if you can manage to not smell it are good. One day you will wake up & discover you don't feel sick, it will get better.
