Hi,

20 wk pg tomorrow and I'm really struggling with extreme thirstiness. No matter what I drink or how much of it my mouth is constantly dry! :(

Does this sound normal or should I raise this with my midwife at some point? It's actually becoming such an inconvenience and I'm getting out of breath a lot I find.

Who else has experienced this?

Isn't that a symptom of diabetes? Probably worth a call to midwife to put your mind at rest or investigate further if needed.

@KatnissMellark Yep I thought that too!

I'm actually already booked in for the glucose test in Feb but to be honest I think I need checking sooner :(

I get that more fluid is needed when pregnant due to baby but this is ridiculous..

I had the GTT and it came out fine.
I’m 36 weeks now and still feel very thirsty.

My midwife said it was normal.
I probably wake up 4 times a night for a wee and over that time I drink about a litre!

bumblebee39 · 22/12/2018 08:40

I drink about 8 litres a day or something ridiculous

Just think it's part of pregnancy. This is my 3rd and the same with all 3, no hint of diabetes just the way I react to pregnancy.

Breathlessness could be anaemia or increased blood flow due to pregnancy. If it's really bad may be that the pregnancy has given you temporary asthma xx

I’m constantly thirsty I drink 4/5 litres of water a day. Midwife isn’t worried and I’ve has 3 diabetes tests. Definitely mention it at your next appointment but it is probabaly nothing to worry about 🙏

I get like this too. Are you drinking water or juice? Keep up with the water and hopeful will pass.

If something seems unusual for you I think it’s always better to ask your midwife or doctor. It’s probably fine but better to check these things.

Each pregnancy I’ve suffered from extreme thirst and thought I must have gestational diabetes but it has turned out to be completely normal. Do check with your midwife though as the GTT is a straightforward (albeit boring and hungry two hour wait).
