Midwife refusing to accept baby is breech

My baby is breech. It's freaking obvious to me (from where the two lumps of head and bum are and where the kicks are) and confirmed by a scan last week (for placenta placement). I'm only 34 weeks so know baby could turn and I'm having a c section anyway so it doesn't actually matter, it's just really frustrating that she won't believe me!

My mum had this when she was expecting me! In the end they X rayed ( it was the 1960's!) And of course mum was right!

This is my second pregnancy too, so I do know. My friend gave birth to an undiagnosed breech, she too had suspected and not been believed!

Can she not tell when she listens to the heartbeat?

mortifiedmama · 20/12/2018 15:28

Nope, or at least refuses to acknowledge she has had to work way up by 6 inches! I think she just wants to be "midwife knows best".

Did the midwife not see your scan?

Cherries101 · 20/12/2018 18:07

Go over her head. Write a letter of complaint. A lot of midwives kill women and children with this attitude.

mortifiedmama · 20/12/2018 18:40

user1471433387 no. Separate appointment.

I had this! Even at 36 weeks the midwife wouldn’t believe me even though I’d had a private scan the week before as I suspected it. She flat out refused to believe me and wouldn’t send me for an nhs scan to confirm it as she was sure it had turned and was extremely rude and patronising saying she knew what she was doing more than I do etc (even though I hadn’t felt anything and all the movement was on exactly the same side and place as when it was 100% breach). I was fuming and so upset and had to pay for another private scan (which of course confirmed I was right) and cut out the midwife and went straight to the hospital to sort it out. Ended up having a last min elcs booked in. I am insisting on a presentation scan this time at 36 weeks as it was quite stressful by the end last time and scares me how she just wouldn’t believe me.

I knew DC1 was breech. MW said he wasn’t, would not refer me for a scan. All HCPs said “What would you know Mrs Bike, you’ve never had a baby before”.

At 10 cm dilation, a student MW said “he’s got his hands on his head - no that’s a foot, where’s the other foot..,,?”! As I was taken off to surgery for emcs to delivery an undiagnosed footling breech.

Undiagnosed by everyone but me!
