Hi, this is my first pregnancy and I'm 5 weeks along. I'm really struggling with the idea that I may lose my baby to a miscarriage or may already have lost my baby. I've been reading all these threads and its made me really nervous, I was wondering if I should have an early scan in order to see if my baby is even alive.

Any advice is welcome please

Hi there I am 18 weeks tomorrow and I was like this.

I was so worried and was constantly doing tests.

I had a scan at 8 weeks and it helped so much as we got to see our little monsters heartbeat.

Try to take 1 day at a time and distract yourself. If your going for an early scan they say it should be 6 weeks onwards but I think around 8 weeks is a pretty good time.

Good luck !

My advice would be- stop reading these threads.

I stayed off Mumsnet for the first couple of months of my pregnancy, until my mninng sickness kicked in and I needed support.

I found it stopped me trying to self diagnose every little thing (and make it all 10x worse).

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP Flowers

Sometimes you need to stop reading the threads.

1/3 women will have a miscarriage. That’s a scary figure. However, only 1% (I think) will have what is called a missed miscarriage. That’s the kind where the baby has died without the mother knowing.

It looks really common on here because women come to share their experiences, but I promise you it isn’t that common.

By all means, book an early scan if you think it will help but you do need to trust your body to a degree. You can’t know what’s going on in there all the time.

Congratulations on your pregnancy xx
