Looking for advice and recommendations

I've recently found out in 8 weeks pregnant, I went to register with the midwife and the next booking appointment isn't until I'm 11 weeks although the paperwork said must be by 10 weeks, the receptionist didn't seem too concerned. Just looking for reassurance.

Also I was looking for recommendations for a book for my OH as it will be our first baby. I wanted to give him something for Christmas.

Congratulations.

It’s often an annoyingly long wait to see the midwife but your booking in at 11 weeks won’t be an issue. Ideally you want your dating scan between a specific timescale but because you found out you were pregnant later than the majority of women do, I guess they have filled in the more recent appointments and the extra bank holidays has also reduced the number available.

I dont mind the wait until the midwife, I was just worrying about the 12 week scan. They did say some clinics were cancelled due to the bank holidays. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't effect the scan, thanks for your reassurance.

Try "The Expectant Dad's Handbook" by Dean Beaumont.

My booking in appointment was at, by my calculations, 11+4. At that appointment, the midwife put me back 3 days to 11+1, basing it on LMP, not ovulation. I was very worried about the scan, but she reassured me, saying they perform miracles on a daily basis.

I got a phone call early the next week, with a scan date a week and a day after the booking in appointment. At the scan, the sonographer put me at 13+2, instead of the 12+6 my ovulation suggested (would have meant day 8 ovulation, which didn’t happen - baby is clearly just very advanced!). So if the scan had been delayed much, we wouldn’t have been able to have the appropriate measurements done.

I’d recommend waiting 3 or 4 working days after the appointment, then calling the maternity department at your chosen hospital to check up on it - day you haven’t received a letter yet, and want to make sure the request hasn’t got lost.
