Sinusitis at 33 weeks - any pregnancy safe remedies??

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I’m 33 weeks with my 2nd. Pregnancy has been fine so far with no major problems but the last week I have had a really heavy cold and I think it might have turned to sinusitis. My whole face/head and teeth ache and I am soooooo gross and snotty. Plus I have a cough which is, shall we say, a challenge to my not very strong pelvic floors and also makes my head ache due to sinus pain. I’m not feeling fluey (I had the jab) and eating fine, feeling loads of baby movements, sleeping ok.

I’m trying not to take loads of paracetamol so restricting it to every 8 hours. It helps loads when I do take it though. I’ve also been doing vicks steam inhalation and even resorted to nicking my son’s snufflebabe balm one night Blush

I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can do or if I basically have to sit this out. I’m not used to being ill so starting to get a little bit worried it might be something more than just a really heavy nasty cold and will affect the baby.

So... any words of wisdom appreciated. And any tips or remedies you can recommend? I’m still working full time but working at home at the moment as don’t want to inflict my general grossness on colleagues.

Ive just got over this, had it for about 6 weeks it was awful. I ended up getting sinusitis towards the end. I used calpol baby nose spray, and just kept up with paracetamol. Also rubbed vicks literally everywhere on me every night as I couldn't breathe at all through my nose and olbus oil on my pillows. And menthol sweets. The spray didn't really do much but relieved some of the pressure and symptoms it's safe as it's just a saline spray. I hope your feeling better soon it's horrible Flowers

Try headex / 4head stick all over your head and on your temples and behind your ears. Have a steam bowl with vicks/albas oil and a towel over your head. Also check out lymphatic drainage on you tube, it works great and you will feel great relief afterwards!
And you can do it anytime.

Yours, Fellow sinus sufferer!!

Look at netty pots. It's like a tea pot you pour into your nose (not tea but saline). Gross but damn effective at cleaning out your sinuses! Failing that, antibiotics from doc.

Poor you! I second the neti pot - or you can buy either a saline spray (like you would for a baby) or little tubes of saline solution that you just breathe up your nose (whereas the neti pot you kind of snort it out).
I was in France during early pregnancy and had terrible sinusitis as they have these little tubes available cheaply in all pharmacies, takes a bit of getting used to but it definitely helped - I know in London lots of small pharmacies selling french brand beauty products also sell them but failing that I'm sure Boots and the like sell the baby saline spray (possibly adult versions too) which will do the job.

Poor you! Sinusitis is miserable at the best of times.

Only thing that makes any difference to me is using a flannel soaked in hot water as a compress.

Be careful with any remedies that involve menthol as I believe this can meddle with milk supply.

Sterimar which is a saline spray. Also lots of steam at any opportunity - baths, inhaling it from a bowl, etc. Do the steaming then use the saline to rinse out the nose. Paracetamol. Also some kind of warm compress to place on the bits of your face that hurt (probably forehead). Rest.

Menthol crystals. One or two in a cup of boiling water and inhale. Clears you right out and completely saved my sanity during last pregnancy. Breastfed for nearly two years so no probs there.

Verryberrycherry · 18/12/2018 22:48

I have this now and its awful. Sterimar spray seems to help. The kind you can get babies as you can clear out some gunk with it.
