Has anyone got any tips on how to cope with hyperemesis whilst looking after a 7 month old..?

So I'm 6 weeks pregnant and already have a 6, almost 7 month old. I had hyperemesis with my DS until about 12 weeks and so I'm fully expecting that this time around will be no exception (although I'm hoping to god I'm wrong). I'm so so worried because I was literally bed bound for about a month and I'm just wondering how the hell I'm going to cope looking after our little boy? Has anyone been there? I don't really have much family to rely on, they all work full time along with my other half. I'm trying not to panic..

Hi I feel for u I don't have Hyperemesis but constant nausea all day and on a bad day sick multiple times. I have two children and find they can keep your mind off the sickness sometimes. I also find when I have an empty belly the nausea is a lot worse so I just eat what I can (although nothing appealing atm lol) and ice cold water kinda helps. hope you find something to ease it. I find this is the hardest part of pregnancy lol

Have you tried medication? There are lots of options, speak to your GP.

Look up the hyperemesis support thread in the pregnancy section - they are a helpful lot. Pre-emptive medication - get a prescription early and I'm sure the others can suggest things to try. Good luck xx

Medication all the way, read the main hyperemesis thread. I plan to stock the freezer just as we did before baby arrived to have minimal cooking (for the family, I wasn’t eating) If your oh could prep some of the baby’s food the night before, check nappy station etc? Think about how you can modify things - nappy changes perhaps should be on floor to minimise lifting. Have a safe area or two that you can just plop baby to go and be sick- a play area and a bouncy chair (if still safe) outside the bathroom.

My Dr prescribed me Avomine tablets which you can buy over the counter. Check with your doctor first. They did help a bit. It is so so hard. Try get support from wherever you can even if it's just asking a neighbour or a friend to watch baby for an hour. See if your partner can take time off if you are really bad.

I would pre-empt it with meds. It won't stop it happening but it isn't such a shock to the system. I got through 9 months of it with a 15-24 month old. You can do it! Lower your expectations of yourself, it's ok to sit them in front of CBeebies, and they won't remember that you had to slightly neglect them for a short while in order to give them a wonderful sibling Smile congratulations Flowers
