Choosing an out of area hospital

I have elected to give both at a hospital out side my area, and I'm finding progress to be pretty slow. I found out on the 26th Nov, had midwife appt. On the 5th Dec, bit have had noting since then. No blood samples, urine samples or a dating scan. When I chase I just get told to wait. Is this normal? Cc an anyone else share similar experiences??? Do I need to be more aggressive with them?

How many weeks pregnant are you?

orangepopp · 18/12/2018 16:21

i chose to gave birth outside of my area but all of my appts were at my local hospital until week 35. Once I moved I found that noone was.following me up and i had to keep ringing. The informed me that I would stay with my local hospital until I went into labour or had to be induced. Even my sweeps were done at my local hospital.

I gave birth at an out of area hospital. I think it really depends on the hospital.

I had a booking appointment with my community midwife at my GP and then another one at the hospital after she had referred me over. That was more detailed and did bloods etc. It took about 2 weeks for me to get my letter from the hospital with my appointments.

I had all my routine midwife appointments with my community midwife at the GP, but all scans were booked and handled through the hospital.

InDubiousBattle I'm not sure, a clear blue told me 3weeks + so I took that to mean 5 weeks which would put me at around 9 weeks now. I have booked a private dating/reassurance scan for Thursday, as it feels like my symptoms have gone, and I know it can be normal at this stage but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

orangepopp sounds like they start at they mean to go on. But I spoke it's worth it to have the better hospital. I am told there is a local clinic where some of my appointments will be so hopefully not too much of a pain.

Stephisaur that sounds about right for what I have been told so far. Glad to know that it's normal. The 2 week point for me is tomorrow so I'll wait till after my private scan before I chase anyone. Just incase the worst should happen. I'd feel like a total idiot chasing for a scan and then cancelling the day after.

You're 5 weeks pregnant and you've already booked the hospital where you want to deliver your baby! Wow!

AornisHades · 18/12/2018 18:57

Nothing much happens until around 12 weeks. And after that it's pretty sparse appointment wise if the pregnancy is uncomplicated.

Jummynbean · 18/12/2018 21:43

Thanks every one!

Heratnumber7 yeah my sis had her baby at my out of area, and I've heard one too many bad stories about my local hospital!

Had mine all out of area. With first I had booking spot at 10 weeks and first scan at 12. With second it had changed to booking / scan same day at 12 weeks. Third was officially the same but I was seen at EPAU due to problems earlier at about 8 weeks. 4th I was under consultant care after what happened with 4th pregnancy, so saw a doctor at about 6 weeks, but actually did booking at 12 weeks.

I think that there’s nothing they can do for you before 12 weeks. The GP can tell you to stop smoking and to take folic acid, you don’t need to go to an antenatal clinic for that. I think in subsequent pregnancies where previous ones were problematic you might get some care earlier.
