B6 - take loads and loads, the US safe limit is higher than the UK one.

i had really bad sickness with my first two pregnancies, I didn't hear anything about vit B6, but I do know that keeping my blood sugar up for the last two pregnancies has REALLY helped. I had hardly any with my third and even less this time around.
I literally ate and ate and stuffed myself with lucozade glucose tablets.
Flat coke/lemonade is good if you are being sick, it literally kept me out of hospital when nothing else stayed in.
good luck I hope you feel better soon.

Was in hospital with severe morning sickness, got given jabs of B6 but this didn't work (one thing did though- giving birth, funny enough). Hope it works better for you. Maybe check with your midwife? That sort of thing, eg safe dose limits, is right up their street.

I'm sure there are loads of other remedies posted on other threads. Scratching and sniffing a lemon is my personal favourite. Have hundreds of others that I tried and some did help/some didn't so happy to post more if you need them!

You're supposed to consult your MW or GP before taking anything.
I take up to 110 mg of B6 a day. Did this in last 2 pregnancies and kids seem okay (now age 3 + 5). But anything above 10 mg/day is officially deemed dangerous in UK.

US lozenge advert suggesting up to 75 mg/day would be okay (they don't think they'll get sued on that).

Health.yahoo.com also suggests 25 mg of B6 up to 3x a day.

I didn't know about B12, too, must try that.

at 10mg

I take 250mg a day (not pg though)

we give b vits to women with hyperemesis where i work... although i can't remember the bloody dose right now!!!

lljkk · 26/06/2007 10:38

UK FSA advice saying don't exceed 10 mg/day of B6. I thought I better double check when I said "official". There's a lot of controversary about that recommendation, though.

You can do nerve damage, possibly not all irreversible, with high doses of B6 (somewhere between 400mg and 1g/day). I don't think that I would go above 200 mg/day, myself.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/06/2007 10:40

I'm sure it said on the hyperemesis website (bloomingawful.com I think) that UK studies have shown less effect than American studies which may be explained by the fact that the dose in the US is way higher.

This was one area where I ignored medical advice and took over the recommended dose because I think it helped and quite honestly I would have tried anything.

Seriously, keep your blood sugar up.

beansprout · 26/06/2007 21:21

Funny you should say that. Have been practically mainlining Lucozade today and have felt better for it.

Go for acupuncture - the only thing that worked for me and I tried EVERYTHING. Had acupuncture at 5 months for 3 weeks in a row and it stopped it. Next time I will have acupuncture from 5 weeks!
