Sore coccyx

Am currently 26 + 2 with my first, and faring reasonably well all things considered except for one thing - if I sit for more than 2-3 hours, I get an extremely sore coccyx which then translates to a numb bum. I've seen that there are slopy cushions with a gap for the coccyx that you can get, so thought I'd give them a whirl as I'm going to be pretty much desk-bound for the next few weeks - has anyone used any of these and got any recommendations? In fact, any suggestions gratefully received!

Ouch I've had a very sore/bruised coccyx with current and last pgs (ffels like I've been kicked - hard!) and it seems to coincide with being constipated (I wonder whether the nerves run closely or something). A good dose of prunes and upping my water intake usually does the trick for me. No advice on the cushion I'm afraid. HTH

Hi,
I had a really sore coccyx after I had my dd. Seems I aggrevated a previous injury when I fell on my bum when I slipped on some ice years ago. Well anyway after months of physio, what did the trick for me was doing pelvic floor exercises like mad. Am pregnant again now & recently the same sorness has come back. So have started pevic floor exercises & has made it better for me. I know how sore it can be, I couldn't sit down painfree for months.HTH

My sympathies also. I fell down the stairs when pg with dd and landed hard on my coxyx, and it troubled me for almost a year afterwards and can still get inflamed occasionally.

I tried the special cushion thing but it didnt work for me. If you are going to be sitting at your desk alot, my advice would be to make sure you have a decent chair which allows you to sit forward on your thighs rather than back into your cocyx, also get up and walk around very frequently.

Could some yoga or pilates help lift the spine and therefore relieve some of the pressure? DOnt know just speculating.

I flipped my coccyx out giving birth and the pain just suddenly disappeared one night (about 8 weeks later) so it must have flipped back in or it may have been a trapped nerve (the docs were useless).

DH bought me a coccyx cushion from Argos (like the one you're talking about) but it was useless except for in the car . Personally I found sitting on a squashed up V-shaped pillow (like the breastfeeding ones) the most comfortable thing.

I was getting this also, and have found sitting on a gym ball helps to take the pressure off the lower back also hoping it will be a help in labour! (am 28 weeks)

Hmm, food for thought there, thanks for your suggestions. Not least as it gives me some incentive to actually get on with looking into pg yoga and those old pelvic floor exercises. Going to try a couple of normal cushions for now (just hope people don't assume I've got piles - not yet at least!) and see if that plus a bit more movement helps.

Thanks again!
