Hi everyone :)

Sooo.. I'm a little confused, I am not pregnant as I did a test last week because I have been bloated, tired, achey and all round feeling crap with no period! Negative

But this evening in the shower I noticed white liquid on my breasts, in squeezing more appeared now I can only assume this is breast milk?!?!

Is this a sign of pregnancy or is it normal?

I'm going to call doctors in the morning but wanted a little advice in the mean time!

Thank you in advance! X

Hi hope you're ok Smile I have no experience in lactating / breast discharge UNLESS I've been pregnant so good luck Star

I would have thought that if you were producing a high enough level of pregnancy hormones to produce milk, then you’d definitely be getting a positive pregnancy test. I didn’t start to leak milk until 25 weeks with dc1, and even that was retry early.

Maybe go and see your GP- they can rule out pregnancy and can investigate the breast changes if needs be.

There are a whole load of reasons women lactate when not preganant. Drug use, hormonal issues, even rarely cancer. Get it checked out.

I think that tests don't show positive after the first trimester or something like that.

You need to go to your GP to know for definite whether you're pregnant. Even if you aren't you need investigating for the reasons mentioned by the pp.

I've Googled... Once HCG levels get so high they sometimes produce a negative pregnancy test. If you dilute your wee with water it could produce a positive test.

You won’t necessarily be pregnant, I had the same from age 19 up until age 29 - where it’s stopped now that I am actually pregnant and in the first trimester!

I had it checked out, in my case it’s benign (known as idiopathic galactorrhoea) however there are a few unpleasant diseases that can cause it which need to be ruled out.

Do a test if it’s still negative please go to your GP any discharge in any form from the breasts should be investigated, it’s likely pregnancy or hormone related but definitely worth a visit

Good. Better safe than sorry.

You might have increased levels of prolactin, I had this when I was 21 and lactated when I took the week break with the pill. I went to the doctors and they sent me for blood tests, and I have hyperprolactilma which is controlled by meds. This may not be the case for you, but if you do want to know more about it following your doctors appointment just ask Smile
