Retroverted/Tilted Uterus

Hi ladies, I've just been doing some research and am curious to how many people this might apply to. It suggests that women with a retroverted uterus show much later than those without because the "bump" goes towards the back, until the uterus fixes itself which can happen between 12-20 weeks but usually around 16 weeks.

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and haven't even got the start of a bump, which has been causing me great anxiety thinking something is wrong.

So I just wondered out of curiosity if anybody else has a tilted uterus and have found they're showing late?

I have and didn't show late but you probably have stronger stomach muscles than me. I'm sure it's absolutely fine, but if you're worried speak to your midwife Flowers

Thank you 💜 My obstetrician did make a comment about my tummy muscles feeling strong (despite having a good layer of blubber covering them) so that's a good thought. I'm back there for a 16 week scan next week as I'm high risk so hopefully all will be okay xx

I have a retroverted uterus and had a tiny bump during both my pregnancies. I wasn't showing at all at 15 weeks, maybe a very slight thickening of the waist but nothing anyone would notice. I didn't have colleagues noticing and asking if I was pregnant until I was 26 weeks plus. It didn't cause any problems for me at all, although the sonogtapher had to tilt me almost upside down to get a decent view - no idea if that was related? I have a photo of me taken a couple of hours before I had DS2. I'm wearing a baggy style size 10 t-shirt and you can't tell I'm pregnant at all. DS1 was premature but nothing to do with my tilted uterus. Both DC were healthy and a good weight for their gestation iyswim.

@Roomba That's good to know, thank you. I think I'm kind of the same. You can tell I'm slightly thicker in the lower abdomen but nothing that's made me need to change my jeans size etc.

I don't mind have a small bump as long as baby is healthy. I suppose it's less to lose after!

Hiya....I was about 20 weeks with my DS before I started showing. Didn't know at the time that my uterus was retroverted (apparently it's extremely tilted and irritable!). I found the bump appeared almost overnight!

Don't worry I'm sure pretty soon you'll stop being able to see your feet!😊

Retroverted uterus, two pregnancies, small bumps both time (second pregnancy I didn't need to wear maternity clothes until gone 5 months) and, I am not sure if it is related, but I don't have a single stretch mark.

squeekums · 13/12/2018 10:02

Im not sure if i do BUT i never showed in pregnancy till 28, 29 weeks, i found out at 27 weeks.
I never went up more than 1 size in clothes
I had a midwife suggest it but no investigation at time (if they even could, i dunno) or after pregnancy
Dd was born healthy, no issues

I have a retroverted uterus. I get very bloated though so did have a bump very early on.

Interesting when I was in labour with my dd, all the pain was in my back. I think that’s because of the tilted uterus.

Canders · 13/12/2018 13:28

I think it must vary from woman to woman. Maybe it's to do with muscle strength also.

I've got a retroverted uterus and showed quickly with both pregnancies.

JellycatElfie · 13/12/2018 13:30

I have a tilted uterus and measured ‘small’ with both pregnancies and needed growth scans. I didn’t feel small though and I showed early though a lot was probably bloating! With my second labour the pain was more in my bum and back and that’s also where I get period pains.

I have a retroverted uterus. With first pregnancy, my bump was quite small until 26 weeks or so, I just looked a bit fat. Second pregnancy, I showed a bit earlier.

But it ended up massive both times - I often was asked if I was having twins, even by medical professionals.

I did carry transverse both times, DD1 turned head down but upside down about 34 weeks. DD2 turned head down and but upside down/spine to spine one day before I gave birth.

redcaryellowcar · 13/12/2018 19:03

I have a retroverted uterus and remember not showing much early on, but I think that's more to do with, especially in first pregnancy having strong tummy muscles. In my second pregnancy I was measuring 5 weeks ahead so not sure my bump could be described as small.
Either way I wouldn't worry. If you make it to 40 weeks I'm sure you'll feel enormous!

Thank you for all of the responses! Definitely feel reassured that it's okay I don't have any bump yet!
