I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Thank you for your advice and support everyone. I found another sheet of cyclizine tonight! I knew I had run out too soon! Delighted to have stress off me for tonight and tomorrow. I felt so much better for your words of kindness.
@LucindaE, my date is 18th July for the list 😊 so far I’ve had one baby two weeks late and one four weeks late (both inductions) so I’m thinking between mid June and early August Grin
Latest moan- I have an ulcer under my tongue where my pointy tooth is scraping it every time I spit (all the time.) ulcer is itself a result of nausea incduced insomnia. Unfortunately I can’t stop the spitting and pointy tooth is now separating ulcerated skin from rest of tongue. #whyisthislifeforme #whydobadthingshappentogoodpeople
Flowers to everyone for another day survived

Nighttimenope · 22/01/2019 22:41

Sorry that should have said four weeks early!!

Reastie · 23/01/2019 10:26

I’m getting myself into such an anxious state here with how much movicol to take and when will it work. I’ve literally spent hours googling and have scared myself stupid with stories of terrible painful non stop diarrhoea whilst on it as well it not working so people have to have more extreme treatments. I’m on day 3 of taking it and no significant movement since I started. I know I must be backed up a fair bit as my diet is now quite high in bulk/fibre. It says it can take a few days to work and on day 1 I only took half a sachet, yesterday 1.5 and today I’ve already had one. It seems like the mistake people who don’t get immediate relief make is they increase the dose too much before its had a time to work and then are stuck with the effects so I’m twitchy of how much to increase it (normal dose is 1-3 but can be up to 8 for impaction). I’m probably just hugely overthinking it so I’m getting in such a state about it. I had a very small movement yesterday but it was softer so something must be happening. I try to go and there’s no urge to be able to atm.

Nighttime thank goodness you found that extra strip, phew! What a relief!

Avacadoo oh dear to the barstard story!

Meg6840 · 23/01/2019 14:00

Reastie- Thank you for the movicol info I will send the DH to get some. I hope it works for you soon. Me too!

Nighttime So sorry to hear your GP receptionist issues. I would think about writing a complaint. I had the same issue on Monday and my surgery dealt with it amazingly. I had a call back from a pharmacist who was able to authorise a repeat prescription.

I too feel like my son is being extra difficult with me at the moment. Hopefully this will pass when we get back to normality. When ever that may be!

I'm due 20th August for the list

eallison88 · 23/01/2019 14:39

reastie it's no surprise you're overthinking it,... there's not a lot else for you to think about at the moment. I have no advise I'm afraid, ibhave no experience of movicol. About a week ago my bowels suddenly decided to become landlocked again, so have had to increase lactulose again. Which is helping. But now I seem to be at a point where I can try to go and not be able to, then 30-60mins later I need to go with very little warning, so it's a mad dash to the loo, and then it's fairly loose (all the details, sorry guys!). An odd combination, Which is manageable at home. But I don't really want to have yo run to the loo at school, or share the loo with someone else. Hey no! Hopefully it'll settle again.

SeaEagleFeather · 23/01/2019 15:21

I had it and took it twice a day. Took a couple of days to really take effect but it helped

canonlyhopexo · 23/01/2019 15:21

@eallison88 it's really odd for you to say that as I'm having that exact trouble today. I've been constipated for several weeks but managed a couple of goes and haven't needed any tablets etc. I went yesterday so I assumed I wouldn't be going again any time soon. This afternoon a very sudden bout of diarrhoea!? WTF!

Reastie · 23/01/2019 15:38

Weird on the bowels thing as I am comstantly (when on Senna) having sometimes going a bit every day but then randomly I’ll have 3 or 4 days with very little and then a day where I’m going nom stop and very urgently and easy to pass.

I had my first bm with the movicol. Not huge or everything that I think is there but worthwhile iykwim. I’m wondering whether to stick with 1.5 sachets for now to see how tomorrow goes before increasing to 2. In rewlly annoying bad news I still came over really badly nauseous before I needed to go, so maybe it’s nothing to do with the Senna I was taking, maybe I’m just going to feel like I’m going to be sick for a couple of hours before a bm every time. Which is pretty a miserable thought. I had to go to bed again as it was so bad before I had the bm, and it’s always very sudden in coming on so it’s stressing me out that it’ll happen if/when I go out. If there were a regular pattern then I’d feel more comfortable but there’s no rhyme or reason tomwhen I need to go. Sorry to overshare so much here, but at least you all have similar issues so can relate.

Eal are you back at work again tomorrow? Good luck!

canonlyhopexo · 23/01/2019 15:53

@Reastie that's really good you managed to get a bit out even if you think you've got more to give lol! I felt like that before my explosive session just now. I also had the sick bowl in front of me as that was happening. A very glamorous moment. I would maybe stick to your dosage as it seems to have done a little bit and see how you get on tomorrow or later. I see what you mean about it maybe happening while you're out and about. I was in Tesco once halfway through doing my shop and I had a very close call of nature! I don't really have any advice on that one if there's no pattern x

norbert23 · 23/01/2019 15:56

I had some pizza last night and it was amazing. Didn't enjoy the terrible diarrhoea all night but I kind of think it was worth it! Feel really rancid today so I think I'll stay with plain food for a while 😳
I'm going to try and go to work tomorrow morning all being well, I can come home if it's bad and at least I've tried. It's not as bad when I'm lying down and resting so I need to see if it's manageable if I'm up and about.
Hugs to everyone - hope we all have a better night / day tomorrow x

eallison88 · 23/01/2019 17:14

reastie yep, 2 hours today and same again tomorrow. I can feel it's affecting me physically. E.g. when I first started the steroids I basically needed to eat constantly from 2pmto keep nausea down. That hasn't been the case for a month or so, but is again today. And heartburn has risen a bit again. So I am conscious of monitoring that, but I still feel benefits are outweighing the negatives. Im gonna make sure Friday is a complete rest day and see how I get on.

LucindaE · 23/01/2019 20:12

Oh dear, sorry to hear of horrible bowel experiences, everyone. On top of everything else,a diarrhoea virus seems to be going about. I don't know if that is relevant.
Nighttimenope I'll add you. Sorry, I forgot to symapthise aout the receptionist being so foul. I don't know what it is about some GP's recpetionists. I so agree with Meg it is a good idea to complain.
eallison You are so right. Thanks for sympathy over that annoying memory!
advicadooHa Ha, about 'faster' and 'bastard'. I did know a little boy who used to push his toy cars about saying 'f', f,f*' (as they wrote in the old books) in a sort of chant, while his mother kept saying the disclaimer, 'He deosn't hear that from me!"

7 weeks now and the crippling nausea has hit 😩 I am on 4mg twice a day of ordansetron and 1 x Phermgan (sp?) but I still feel like it's only a matter of time before I start vomiting too. Is anyone else on this combo?

To top it off I also have a urine infection so on antibiotics, for which common side effects are nausea! Feeling quite down about the prospect of another 7 months of this which is what I experienced with DD1!

emma1224 · 23/01/2019 22:04

Nausea is awful as always but somehow my 12 week scan today made me realise how worth it it is! I understand optimism is hard from the toilet bowl lol x

Hope everyone is feeling okay xx

evuscha · 23/01/2019 22:44

emma1224 how lovely! I had my scan yesterday and exactly the same - finally seeing something positive after weeks of misery was just so nice!
I also took a break from work (in between projects, I was working from home anyway but now I will be properly off for a bit) and it's already made such an impact, I haven't vomitted for 4 days and only had mild nausea. It might be also that I'm coming up to 14 weeks soon, but I feel like the rest and taking it easy are the main factor. The only problem is that it's really boring and I am tempted to do stuff but I will try to stick with it as much as I can.

SeaEagleFeather · 24/01/2019 15:29

congrats emma those photos are lovely! :)

Olivecake · 24/01/2019 18:44

Congrats on those who had good scans - it really helps to see the reason we are going through this!

Well my due date has passed and still no baby, after a day earlier this week of horrendous sickness and cramps that I really thought was the start of it, everything is back to normal again now and I feel no closer to labour.

Hoping everyone had an ok day and isn’t feeling too bad.

LucindaE · 24/01/2019 19:50

emma I so agree with others, such lovely photos.
Olivecake I am so sorry that baby is stil waiting for the music and flashing lights and flourish of trumpets before entering. You must be counting the minutes.
happydays I hope someone on that very combination comes on soon.
Sorry if I have said this to you before, but do think in terms of a laxative in case the constipation hits from the Ondansetron, and also, an anti acid such as Omprazole or Ranidtidine, which can be bought over the counter and are safe in pregnancy, can make a huge difference to the nausea.
evuscha I am glad that the rest is helping and that the scan was an encouragment.
Apologies to anyone overlooked.

Thank you everyone!!
Also had a sick free day today nausea wasn't AS bad either I think it's optimism lol but I pigged out while I could need to gain some pounds back before my next midwife app😬

Hope everyone is feeling okay!! Goodnight x

CalmerComber · 25/01/2019 06:52

Not long now Olivecake!

I’m really struggling with Ondansetron constipation. Am on 2 Senna every evening. Are glycerin suppositories the next step?

Reastie · 25/01/2019 07:22

Calmer I was on two Senna a day and it just about (barely) kept me regular. I’m not sure what the next step is, I swapped tommovicol this week but for other reasons so I can’t advise.

Emma yay to a better day :)

Olive fingers crossed for it to happen soon, at least you know it won’t be much longer

Lovely scan news.

Happydays poor you, I hope once the infection clears up you feel a bit better. FWIW ondansetronndose csn be increased if needed.

Still up and down recently. Was thinking of dropping down to 4 mg ondansetronnat night the other day and tried but then later onnfelt really sick so ended up taking it just late. It’s a start I suppose...

eallison88 · 25/01/2019 07:57

Hi all. Well, I've completed my first week back at work... all 6 hours of it (over 3 days). I can feel the physical impact on my body, but it feels manageable and I'm confident that it will settle. I have nothing but rest planned for today, apart from picking up a preggo pillow and then my son from nursery after 3. Hoping the quiet day will restore the balance a little. I'm definitely glad to be back in work tho. Got some lovely support and kind words from an unexpected source at work yesterday; his wife had hyperemesis in both pregnancies. He said that when he'd heard I was pregnant after I'd been off for about 5 weeks he knew it was hyperemesis. It shows that when you know hyperemesis, you know hyperemesis!

canonlyhopexo · 25/01/2019 11:51

That's good you managed a few hours @eallison88 hope you get time to get some good rest in.

I phoned my GP to ask for an extension on my sick note and they've asked to see me. The medication I was last prescribed ran out but I didn't ask for a repeat as the dr was adamant there wasn't anything else I could have and frankly, the thought of getting myself to the GP again to be turned away with nothing was exhausting - but I've ended up going to need to do that anyway. He's asked what my symptoms are (!? Bit obvious is it not). I've now been suffering with an upset bowel, headaches and pain in my back and hips and clicking every time I stand up/roll over etc which can be quite painful. I've not had a decent night sleep for what feels like weeks as I can't seem to drift off and when I do get to sleep I wake often. I just feel like even the doctor is getting fed up with me now and I feel really miserable and down today. Sorry to vent girls.
