I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Place marking. Hi all!!

goodnightspoon · 10/12/2018 20:57

Been waiting to join this new thread! So bookmarking, just made another thread actually about excessive saliva. Less sick finally today but throat is raw and jaw is locked with mouth continuously filling with spit. Hope everyone else has had a better day Smile

SenoraSurf · 10/12/2018 21:19

Thanks for the advice @LucindaE , DH has come home with some mango, melon, boiled sweets, crisps and juice so hopefully tomorrow won't be as bad as the measly 1 cracker I nibbled on today!
Lots of things tried and tested and failed this week so hopefully something will work eventually :(

MauisLeftNipple · 10/12/2018 21:28

Thank you for the new thread LucindaE and for all your and everyone else's help so far. I really do appreciate it.

Harebellmeadow · 10/12/2018 21:34

I am a graduate of this thread series and just wanted to say hello - DD is now 4months, and i had 5 months of awful, all day vomiting and dehydration. I dont think it quite counted as hyperemesis but was borderline, and i lived off coca cola and crisps, and chips, and then the extreme relentless summer came and floored me.
DD2 was fine and thankfully healthy and strong. So it was totally worth it, but i dont know how i got through it. Wont be doing it again though.
The one thing i sish i had done differently is taken more time off work and actually got told off by my doctor for not getting a sick not, as i was exhausted the while time and got total burnout by the 7th month. I couldnt get out of bed and couldnt walk 30 metres. No-one at work remembers or commends me for my martyrdom so i might as well have kept myself healthy. Took me a while to recover from the birth due to the exhaustion, so wish i had rested more and spent more energy on DD1 and my pets.
So take care everyone. Thank you for the support and knowledge on here and to lucindaE so very much.

WeeBean · 10/12/2018 22:45

My husband found me this evening hugging the toilet and crying my heart out as I vomited again. I'm 12w 4d and since 5w I've had 3 days where I haven't vomited 2-5 times a day. Cyclizine did nothing but metoclopramide has helped a bit. I'm not sure I actually have HG but I'm really struggling with all this nausea and vomiting. I feel like I should be so happy but every day is like groundhog Day. This is my 5th week of being signed off work.

Hairgician · 10/12/2018 22:55

Evening all.
Placemarking as i expect to be sick again with no3. Though am hoping to get through christmas and ny before it takes hold. I think ive it worked out that i will be about 5 and half weeks by christmas day.
Everyone is coming to us for christmas as its first year in new house. I want my fucking dinner. And all the goodies too. Wont be having a drink so party food will do.
Trying to remember when it kicked in last time...

eallison88 · 10/12/2018 23:43

weebean welcome. Congratulations on baby, considerations on the dreadful puking. Sounds to me like you have HG! Not that a label matters at this point. Far more pressing is your need for different meds. There are alternatives that are well used and some women find more effective. Please get yourself to your GP as soon as you are able (liked tomorrow morning ideally!), explain about still puking/nausea and ask for something to added to the combo, or swapped in. Might well be worth reading the guidelines in the first post before you go in, so you're armed with the relevant info. You need to make it clear that it is not sustainable to carry on as you are and that you need the appropriate meds do tag you can eat and drink enough to care for yourself and your baby. If your husband is able to go to the doctors with you, you may find it helpful. A support for you, and depressingly, doctors seem to take the word of other halves more seriously than that of the pregnant puking woman.

hairgician also welcome and congrats! Aside a second pregnancy , you know a bit what yo expect. The guidelines (original post links) put forward to case for pre-emptive antiemetics, so it would probably be worth getting an appointment with GP sooner rather than later and getting at least cyclizine. There does seem to be evidence to suggest that earlyuse of antiemetics is very effective. It certainly cant hurt! Fingers crossed you get yo enjoy at least of the Christmas food on offer!!

8DaysAWeek · 10/12/2018 23:48

Saying hello. I was on the previous thread but it got to a point where even looking at a phone screen made me feel even more ill so had to take a break. I'm 19 weeks now and feeling a lot better. Had a bad day today and couldn't keep anything down but this has become the exception rather than the norm.

Reastie · 11/12/2018 07:14

Hello all,

Welcome hair, I hope you get the Christmas you’re hoping for and hG hasn’t kicked in yet. Agree with eals comments. I’ve just arranged to farm dh and dd over to dms for Christmas Day as I won’t be up to being decent company so I’ll be all alone feeling miserable but unable to do anything. And I’m such a festive person usually, I look forward to Christmas for months [saddo]

Weebean, yes, Groundhog Day, that’s a great way to describe it. My life has been Groundhog Day for the last two months.

Harebell it’s always good to hear positivity from someone who has reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Certainly for me this feels absolutely never ending atm.

Goodnight the excess saliva is just starting with me this week. Who knew such a weird symptom couldn’t be so horrible!

So according to my dates I’m now 12 weeks, come on time, let’s do this and get me through the worst bit.

Hairgician · 11/12/2018 08:05

Yes i plan on calling gp today as need referred to midwives so asking then for meds to have on hand. If i wait until they are really needed am fucked as have a 5 yr old and 7.5mth old so being admitted at all would be a massive pain in the arse.

Hope you all manage to get through christmas without too much bother!! Have to say though, i was looking forward to a wee christmas baileys. Oh well. Choc will have to do.

LucindaE · 11/12/2018 13:32

Goodness, the thread is busy. Harebellmeadow I remember you and your lovely name from last time. I am so glad that the thrread helped.
How ungrateful of your work colleagues not to notice the sacrifice you made in dragging yourself in. I hope everyone on here takes due note of that: sufferers often go back to work far too early.
8DaysaWeek I am so glad that you are much better.#
Hairgician Welcome back. I do hope it holds of until the festivities are over, and that effective meds stop it from being too bad.
Weebean Welcome. Sorry you feel so down. You have already had great advi ce. As others say, do ask for more efective meds. An anti acid can make all the difference, too. if you have been signed off like that it certainly sounds like Hyperemesis. How are the liquids going down? Have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration (though the signs of dry mouth, headache, blurred vision, dark urine are probably more reliable, hospitals seem to have great faith in them). Some drinks that have helped others: ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, flat full sugar coke, soda water, fizzy water, Elderflower water, ice cubes, Lucoazade, fizzy orange, lemonade, orange squash, Robinson's fruit drinks, orange juice (if not too acid), sips of chocolate milkshake - maybe soya - Iron Bru, Dr Pepper andElderflower cordial and tonic water. Some foods- so called - cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, tinned fruit, and slices of melon and mango.
Senorasur I do hope you find something that suits you, and do try for more effective meds.
Good advice from eallsion Reastie and everyone.
MauisLeftNipple I am glad the thread is helping.
Apologies to anyone I've rudely overlooked. I hope everyone is coping today.

Sorry, goodnightspoon Welcome too. That saliva is dreadful. Many go round with a spit basin. It is horrible. Sad

WeeBean · 11/12/2018 13:46

Thank you for all the support and advice! This is a wonderful thread! Most days I can't keep water or anything down until 12ish, can't face fizzy drinks at all either. I've got my first hospital appointment on Thursday so I'll be sure to ask what else I can do to help ease it. I really hope everyone else is feeling better soon!!

beanhunter · 11/12/2018 14:13

Checking in. Using my day off to bond with my sofa.

Jamjarjem · 11/12/2018 14:39

Good night spoon, I can totally relate to the excess saliva. I take a little cup around the house with me to spit into as swallowing it just makes me feel more nauseous. Its such a horrible symptom and one that you can't really explain to anyone.
I made it to my local supermarket yesterday and found ranitidine was available just on the shelf so didn't have to ask a pharmacist even. I took it last night and it really improved my heart burn.
Also I had my first scan yesterday and everything looks great, so that's a massive weight off my shoulders after 2 previous miscarriages. I'm a week further on than I thought which is a bonus, so mentally I'm feeling a lot more positive even if physically I still feel rotten x

Kel55 · 11/12/2018 17:19

Hi ladies sorry I've not been on for a while, I've really had a ruff time of it. My HG has been awful and I've been in and out of hospital. Then a couple of wks ago my hips started hurting. I've been diagnosed with spd and day by day it's got worse. I now can't get out of bed! I can't walk at all.its to painful to put any pressure on my legs at all.
Has anyone else had spd?

I honestly can't believe I've got this on top of HG. I feel so low.
I've got a appt at the hospital Thursday to see a consultant about inducing me eaely as I can't cope anymore. I just hope they will do something.

eallison88 · 11/12/2018 17:53

kel55 I had SPD from about 22 weeks in my first pregnancy, and it kicked in last week (just entered 2nd trimester this week). So I feel your pain! And the frustration at how damned unfair it is on top of HG. I saw a chiropractor in my first pregnancy (after an NHS physio informed me there was little that could be done and I'd probably be on crutches by the time I reached term...) and she was amazing. Not only did she stop the pain worsening, she made things better . As soon as the pain kicked in last week for me I booked in with her. Just one appointment and I can feel improvement (ie I can stand without the pain in my knee causing my leg to buckle!). Not cheap, but if you can make it work financially I would really recommend.

Dotty356 · 11/12/2018 18:55

Hello,

Hope I'm ok to join. Found out I'm expecting on Friday. I have 1 already (11 years old) it's taken me this long to consider doing it again after I was in and out of hospital for 6 months with sickness. Really worried and just waiting for the sickness to hit me this time.
Any advice on anything that may help that maybe wasn't around 12 years ago lol.

It doesn't help that I'm allergic to a lot of the anti sickness drugs either! Something I learnt during my last pregnancy!

I hope everyone is managing ok... nothing worse than morning sickness! Sad

Kel55 · 11/12/2018 19:10

Eallison- Hi I'm sorry to hear you have spd too. The Drs have said they can't get my emergency physio in time b4 birth so I paid to see a osteopath. I went 3 times and it didn't make any difference at all. I was preying after hearing such good things I would walk out there feeling a bit better but no improvement at all. I've got sciatica now too just to add to already being in pain! The osteopath said it's because of how I'm holding myself because of the spd it's now caused the sciatic nerves to get trapped. Sad

eallison88 · 11/12/2018 19:31

Try a chiro kel55 - they work differently. Always worth a try?!

eallison88 · 11/12/2018 19:33

Welcome dotty congratulations on your pregnancy! I'd suggest going to your GP as soon as possible and getting a prescription for antiemetics now, even if you're not yet feeling sick. The guidelines are clear about the positive impact of pre-emptive meds. Best of luck

Dotty356 · 11/12/2018 20:11

Hi @eallison88
Thank you!
Ok, so I need to get to the gp ASAP. Thanks for the advice. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get any unless I was admitted to hospital.

I can't remember when it started last time but it was pretty early. I didn't see a midwife till 16 weeks last time! I'm hoping to get in with one early this time.

Does anyone have any experience with sickness continuing with a second pregnancy?

I think mine is hereditary! My sister was sick and so was my mum and nan. Dh' sister only worked one day and she was off sick! So it's on both sides eeeek. Xx

Plasticgiraffe · 11/12/2018 20:54

Hi I posted on the last thread a few times you all got me through some truly hideous months. I'm now 18 weeks and finally feel I'm coming through the worst. I know from my first pregnancy it won't go until birth but it's nothing compared to the last 3 months. Went back to work this week which I never thought I'd be happy about 😂. I'm staying on the cyclizine for now as I've read it can be masking the sickness where you think you're ok but it's actually the anti sickness working. I read this a lot from others but it will end! Apart from partners, no one else really understands so this thread has been a lifesaver. For me, I can't ever do this again and I'll be sterilised during my c section in May so just hoping it doesn't come back
