Hello
Just a bit of advice really. Going to start buying some clothes for my early April baby. I am wondering if I should get the short sleeve ones or the long sleeve? I will get a few cross over I just don't want to bulk buy a load I won't use and have to rebuy correct ones.
Any advice on which?
Thank you :)

Get some of both but you'll find you use short sleeve ones (Or sleeveless) more useful for layering under babygros and long sleeved ones later on when they move into trousers and it's warmer so no need to layer as much.

Sorry I was talking about vests. Babygros (All in onesies) are always long sleeved I think?

BertramKibbler · 09/12/2018 09:45

I only used short sleeves with my winter and summer born babies.

Long sleeved only on the coldest of nights.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 09/12/2018 09:46

Babygros normally have long sleeve, you can get the romper type with short arms and legs but they are more for the summer.

CountessVonBoobs · 09/12/2018 09:46

If you mean vests, short sleeved are the most useful for wearing under babygros when baby is small. Newborns are really best in nothing but sleepsuits and vests for the first three months or so. Long sleeved vests are useful later as a sole layer when baby is 6 months or so.

Short sleeved under sleepsuits. Long sleeved on their own or under dungarees.

I don't think I ever used long sleeved with my daughter who was born in May. Like many posters here, I just got lots of short sleeved vests and put a baby grow over the top.

Then when she was a bit bigger, she wore a lot of rompers as it was hot during the summer.

LittleDoveLove · 09/12/2018 09:51

Thank you, it may be me calling them the wrong thing, the ones with the little poppers at the bottom for changing nappy. There are so many names for all these different types of clothes I will read up on difference!

That’s a vest/bodysuit. The ones with no legs. The ones with legs too are babygros/sleepsuits.

Canders · 09/12/2018 09:55

Yes the vests have poppers at the bottom. Sleep suits are all in ones with poppers down the middle. Rompers are all in ones too but with short arms and legs. Hope that helps :)

dementedpixie · 09/12/2018 09:55

The short sleeved ones with no legs are vests (You get long sleeved ones too). The long sleeved, long legged ones are sleepsuits/babygrows. I used to use a short sleeved vest and sleepsuit for night time and also a short sleeved vest under clothing. Long sleeved vests were good under pinafores and dungarees

E20mom · 09/12/2018 09:56

Definitely both

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 09/12/2018 10:00

Oh if you mean vests/ bodysuits I've used both but I prefer the short sleeves.

FairfaxAikman · 09/12/2018 10:06

Get both. We use the long sleeved under clothes when it's particularly cold ( we are in Scotland though).

TerriB84 · 09/12/2018 14:53

I would recommend short sleeves or sleeveless for newborn. I bought some long sleeved ones for my January baby and never used them. Only started using long sleeved ones when she got to about 6 months ish and then I used them as tops b

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 09/12/2018 18:36

We mainly use the long sleeved vests as “pyjamas”, underneath his grobag at night. But they go well under dungarees too.

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 09/12/2018 18:41

Like others I use the short sleeves under a babygro. Long sleeves would go with footed trousers and a knitted cardigan if I wanted baby to look a bit more "dressed up" while still being comfortable. But mostly just vests and babygros - really the most practical way to dress a newborn.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2018 18:43

Personal preference varies so much. If you're planning to buy them full price anyway I'd just get a small pack of each and you can always send someone out to get more or order online when you work out which you prefer.

Personally I find short sleeved more useful, but I have used long sleeved ones under short sleeved t-shirts, and they are good for dungarees. But up to about 3 months it is honestly 100% easiest to dress them just in a short sleeved vest and then a sleepsuit with sleeves and feet. This works for all seasons and if it's really hot you just take the sleepsuit off.

OutPinked · 10/12/2018 09:07

Always long sleeved. I even had my summer babies in long sleeved babygrows. The material is very thin so unless you’re exposing them to burning heat (which you never should do) there’s nothing wrong with long sleeves.

Thank you everyone Smile
