Basically, I have no idea when I fell pregnant. I've been estimated at around 6 weeks, but honestly feels like I could be much further along from my symptoms. I spoke to my midwife who has completed my paperwork to an out of area Hospital, this will take about a week to be processed and I will have to book in blood samples, urine samples and scans myself. My local midwife as given me my 16 week appointment date, but what if I'm more pregnant than they think I am? What if I go to my scan and I'm actually 12 weeks? What are the risks? I've known for almost 3 weeks now, is it normal that I haven't had and medical confirmation???

No risk at all. Bloods are for blood type and HIV screening. If you want to find out risk of Down syndrome etc then this is calculated from info at 12 week scan.

Thank you, that eases my mind a little. How early did you have your first scan?

Could you get a private scan done? They'll be able to date the foetus, they all grow at roughly the same rate at that stage.

Your first scan is at 12 weeks, so it will be in 6 weeks time. It's called the dating scan as they will be able to tell you how far you are by then with much more certainty by then.

The only thing that may cause a problem if you are further along than 12 weeks is that they won't be able to do the NT measurements. I couldn't have them because DD wouldn't lie correctly so had this by blood test at 16 weeks instead.

Unless you have specific problems the NHS scan at 12 weeks and 20 weeks.

I had NHS scans at 6 weeks with all three of my previous pregnancies due to bleeeing. For me 2 of those were miscarriages.

Like a PP said you can get an early viability scan privately. If it still very early in your pregnancy an early scan will proaobly be vaginally. I have one booked for this pregnancy.

Home pregnancy tests are as accurate as medical ones. They are the same thing so yes you don’t need a medical professional to confirm pregnancy.
