Shoud I buy it?

The specific pram I want is quite expensive new, and quite hard to find second hand.

I've found one in good condition at a price we can afford, and only an hour's drive to collect, as opposed to 100s of miles. It comes with lots of extras too (some I don't need but could sell on).

The problem is that I'm only 8 weeks.

Would you buy it?

I probably wouldn't at 8 weeks but I'm sure lots of people would.
Totally your decision!

ree348 · 07/12/2018 17:03

I wouldn't until I had my scan but you do what you think is best x

INeedNewShoes · 07/12/2018 17:03

I wouldn't at 8 weeks. It's very common not to make it to 12 weeks (sorry).

When I had my MC I really wouldn't have wanted my chosen pushchair in the house.

Stephisaur · 07/12/2018 17:08

I wouldn’t.

You (hopefully) have another 7 months before you’ll need a pram. Between now and June/July next year there will be Christmas sales, Easter sales, bank holiday sales... you get the idea.

Chances are that you’ll be able to get the pram you want at a better price anyway, and at a more convenient time.

Congratulations on your pregnancy though :)

Kezebel · 07/12/2018 17:12

Do you have somewhere to store it away? I'd say go for it.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 07/12/2018 17:15

Actually I would. We bought our pram second hand at about that time and we’ve had previous losses and I didn’t quite believe that this pregnancy would be ok. I allowed myself to have a little hope and it saved us a huge amount of money. We could have sold it on if things had gone wrong, and we’ve kept it packed away out of sight anyway.

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 17:37

Thanks for the replies.

We've just lost a baby so I know full well that we may not make it to 12 weeks. We had a scan at 6 weeks and saw a strong heartbeat and I'm very sick so I'm trying to remain positive.

We have lots of space in the loft, it would just need to be wrapped securely.

I definitely get the sales thing... And we've been saving £10 a week since before the miscarriage for a brand new pram. However we could potentially save hundreds by getting one second hand, so it's difficult.

Don't keep it in your own house! It's bad luck! Mines is at my mums

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 18:11

Lol I've heard that Laura but I don't believe it. What about people reusing prams from their first baby?

OP posts:
sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 07/12/2018 18:40

@BirthdayKake just buy it. Put it away in the loft. Can't live your life thinking the worst is always going to happen. You're obviously sensible enough to realise that the worst can happen.

tissuesosoft · 07/12/2018 18:43

I would buy it. If the unfortunate was to happen- you could sell it on for the price you paid

Celebelly · 07/12/2018 18:46

I don't believe in superstition or bad luck. Buy it and put it in the loft if it's a really good deal. If something goes wrong, it'll be regardless of whether you brought a pram or not.

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 18:46

Thank you sabrina and tissue. I'm so bad at making decisions!

I guess if the worst happened, we'd try and try again, and if we were very unlucky and never had a child together (I already have four; DH has none) then I would sell it on

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 18:48

Thanks Celebelly. At this moment I think it's a bit early. But if I did get it, I know that by the time July approaches I'll be so bloody glad I've got one less thing to worry about!!

Spooples · 07/12/2018 18:48

If you're absolutely set on that pram model, I'd buy it. I've also had a miscarriage so can understand why people might disagree, but if it's a good deal, grab it. If you're more flexible on models though, wait and see what comes up in the sales. We got a great mamas and papas one in the black Friday sale for under 500 quid including the carrycot and all the extras.

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 18:49

I did ask the seller if she'd save it for a couple of weeks at least but understandably she said she needs to get rid as it's taking up room in their house.

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 18:51

Hi Spooples. Sorry to hear about your MC.

This pram new is around £450. It's £250 on eBay (but there's extras like another colour pack, a buggy board, a changing bag etc).

I am pretty dead set on this model. It's unisex too. The only other one I'm keen on is the Cosatto giggle with retro prints on them, but I've already had one of those, and the pram hood doesn't fold over very much, whereas it does on the Oyster and it's fab

Zebedee88 · 07/12/2018 18:55

Go for it. I don't believe it brings bad luck, what will happen, will happen. That saving sounds great, and if you're sure that you really want that pram, then you should definitely go and get it .

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 19:05

Thanks Zebedee :)

One thing to think about is the potential cost of repairs.

I bought our pushchair new with a 2 year warranty. It developed an issue but the shop organised the repair all at their cost.

The RRP of our travel system was about £800 (all terrain pushchair with lie flat car seat and isofix base). I just checked every week and got a mega deal of the lot for under £600 by biding my time.

BirthdayKake · 07/12/2018 19:21

Thanks Shoes. I suppose I didn't think about the lack of warranty (not that I ever activate them!) but it's a pram with good reviews so I just hope it holds out

We got ours at about 14 weeks which seemed so early but it was second hand and way too good a price to miss. It's packaged and away in the loft and I'll be bringing it down and washing for the 2nd time soon (due in a few weeks now) I'm glad we did as haven't seen the one we wanted for anywhere near as good a price!

BirthdayKake · 08/12/2018 13:21

Good luck user :) any packing tips?!

OP posts:
KittyMcTitty · 08/12/2018 18:56

I nearly bought one at 10 weeks and went on to have a mmc- I would wait as I wouldn’t have wanted it after that. I found an even better second hand one this time and really pleased I waited.
I don’t believe in bad luck as what happens happens but you don’t want any negative connotations - I’m sure it will all be fine but if you don’t get this one you’ll definitely find another!!! Xxx

BirthdayKake · 09/12/2018 10:12

Oh Kitty sorry to hear that. That's one of my first fears (well, it did happen last time but I wasn't quite as far on).

I've decided to just hope that they hold onto it/don't sell it between now and my scan, which is on January 2nd. The eBay listing ends on January 5th so you never know
