Ullupullu · 07/12/2018 11:26

DP said the condom was not as full as usual yesterday but definitely not split. We have two kids, not right timing for more. WWYD? I'm in fertile window according to period tracking app. I don't want get MAP if not certain iyswim as I have heard it is awful.

If it’s not the right timing then surely the MAP is your only option?

mumofmunchkin · 07/12/2018 11:28

No one here can give you any more certainty than you already have. You really need to make a decision re the MAP - either take it and deal with the side effects, or don't and take the risk - only you and your partner can have any idea how big that risk is (how likely you think it is that some actually came out).

MsPavlichenko · 07/12/2018 11:29

It is your only choice if you don't want to risk a pregnancy.

Velvetbee · 07/12/2018 11:29

Happened to us. Result is 19 now.

Ullupullu · 07/12/2018 11:31

Thank you. My head is clearly in the sand.

Which is more awful, the prospect of the MAP or an unplanned pregnancy? That’s the choice you’ve got to make. I’d get the MAP if I were you, or you can get an emergency coil fitted within 5 days which is very effective

Can you just walk into Boots or do you have to make an advanced appointment?

I would get the MAP if you're dead certain you don't want another just now.

You can get from GP or from chemist. think you have to pay full price from chemist.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 07/12/2018 11:36

Go to any chemist and ask for it, some charge, some don’t. You will have a 2 min chat with the pharmacist and that’s it. Nothing awful about it, I’ve never had any side effects.

MaverickSnoopy · 07/12/2018 11:37

Happened to us too. Currently rocking resulting 7wo in my arms. Difference for us was that timing wasn't the end of the world.

MAP can be bought from superdrug online, or you can walk into any pharmacy. GP can also prescribe if you see them today.

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 07/12/2018 11:39

MAP is fine. Only ever taken it a couple of times but I didn’t have any side effects.

Ullupullu · 07/12/2018 11:40

Thank you everyone. Really appreciate the quick replies!

Agree map is fine. Any chemist and you don’t need an appointment.

TillyMint81 · 07/12/2018 11:41

I took the map years ago when my boyfriend (now husband) and i has been seeing each other for only a few months. It was fine. X

Sycamoretrees · 07/12/2018 11:44

Just be aware that the MAP is more effective the quicker you take it - don't leave it too long or it might not work!

Screaminginsidemeagain · 07/12/2018 11:46

There was a recall in batches of durex recently. We had two issues with condoms splitting or coming off in less than 2 months after not having an issue for 10 years. Took the MAP both tunes with no side effects.

A580Hojas · 07/12/2018 11:49

I used the MAP once a very long time ago and it was absolutely fine. No side effects at all - just a very slightly heavier than usual period. Please don't be put off, an unwanted pregnancy is just not worth the risk! You can't delay taking the MAP until you are "certain" - you have to take it within a short window (not sure exactly but up to 48 hours?).

TheSubtleKnifeAndFork · 07/12/2018 11:50

Get the MAP ASAP, but be aware it doesn't always work (although obviously does the majority of the time). I took it and still got pregnant! The sooner you get it the better.

Ullupullu · 07/12/2018 11:54

Thanks again. I'll try and get out today and get the map and I will look into the coil.

Mississippilessly · 07/12/2018 12:18

Minor injuries unit will also give it to you.
I have taken the MAP 3 times and have never had any side effects.

CountessVonBoobs · 07/12/2018 16:32

If you think there's any chance you've already ovulated, it may be too late for the MAP to work, in which case you might want to consider an emergency IUD if pregnancy would be a serious risk. The MAP works by suppressing ovulation so if you take it after you've ovulated, it won't work.

Ullupullu · 07/12/2018 16:51

Thanks Countess I've now taken Ella One and the pharmacist didn't mention that. The leaflet however does say that! I am pretty sure I have ovulated this month as I felt cramps a couple of days ago. Google (I know I know) suggests Ella One also affects the womb lining and surpresses chance of implantation so I've done what I can for now I think.

MAP is on average around 85%effective depending on how soon you take it after UPSI.

The coil would be a better choice if you absolutely don't want to get pregnant. Plus a long term plan to avoid near misses in the future.
