Recurrent Miscarriage Private Testing

Hi All, this is my first post and I'd be really grateful for any advice.

My husband and I are TTC our first child, unfortunately I've had 3 miscarriages in the last 9 months, I am pregnant now but I suspect this pregnancy will end in the same way. (Lots of reasons but I'm spotting and following the very same pattern as previous unsuccessful pregnancies)

We have been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic on the NHS but for reasons beyond my understanding there is an IT problem at the clinic we wish to choose which means we have now been waiting for over 5 weeks just to receive our correct referral letter in order to book an appointment.

Therefore we are now starting to consider private testing. I have had some initial blood tests done from my GP including most for blood clotting, but no scans and no chromosome blood test at this stage.

Has anyone experienced this themselves and recommend any private clinics for recurrent miscarriage. We live in Oxfordshire but would be willing to travel for the right clinic.

Thank you in advance,
Katie

Hello OP, first off, very sorry to hear about your losses 😕 I'm in Scotland so can't comment on a clinic near you, bit after our third miscarriage we went to a local private fertility clinic who were able to do a raft of tests - checked for any individual chromosonal problems as well as potential compatability issues with DH, hormone levels, internal investigations, sperm assessment and fragmentation & uterine killer cells. Cost was about 2.5k all in. NHS hosp also did raft of blood tests and after 4th loss was sent for an MRI to see if that would uncover anything.

Currently 39 weeks with our first on sixth attempt so don't lose hope!

If you can go private and get as many tests as possible covered ASAP you may find that better anyway... it took about 5 years and 5 MC before we got the chromosome tests on the NHS... finally got some answers.

Don't get me wrong, over the years the nhs have been amazing with me , my MCs and fertility treatment, but they don't dish out all the tests as obviously that'd be so expensive and there can be such a range of problems causing infertility, and once they find something it's assumed that's the problem so you don't automatically get further tests, when it might be something else..
My lapo discovered endometriosis, which was lasered off and I had my nhs round of ivf assuming that was the problem.. 2 MC later (now up to 5 MC and about 5yrs TTC) tests on the foetus that I MC in hospital showed chromosome issues... it was only then that DH and I got the chromosome blood tests and discovered DH is carrier of chromosome issue that causes MC.

Good luck XX

Sorry OP I can't offer anything constructive as am in a similar position to you - 3 MC in 2018 and just been told there's likely to be a 6 month wait for the NHS consultant in my area.

@Badgergirl123 i hope you don't mind but I sent you a PM

So sorry for your losses and the stress of this next stage but thank you Badgergirl for your good news story and experience xx

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. Recommend prof quenby and brosens at university hospital Coventry. £500 ish for initial consultation and the 2*immune tests. Best wishes to you x

Hi Op, we live in a similar area to you. Try to get a referral to the JR if you can. The miscarriage clinic is excellent and offers a range of tests. Also, when appropriate try to get under the care of the Silver Star clinic at the JR (they have looked after both of my high risk pregnancies from 16 weeks to delivery). If you can afford to, I would highly recommend seeing Dr Gorgy at the London Fertility Academy. We had six miscarriages in the space of four years before seeing him (he was able to see us within 48 hours initially). He was amazing and thanks to his treatment and the on going care at the JR we carried to term twice and now have two girls. Good luck.
