Lighter movements 33+ Weeks

I know there is about 16,612,923 threads on this so forgive me for starting a new one.

I'm 33 weeks and I've noticed the last few days that movements are not necessarily reduced but they are a lot gentler and softer than before. I think I have a lazy baby anyway and I am assuming that there are soft movements I don't feel due to my size (high BMI) and anterior placenta.

I am sure I am fine but I have that niggle in my brain. The rational part of me is saying that she's quickly running out of room and can't pull back as much as she did pre-week 32 to thump and kick me. I know they sleep more as time goes on too.

I'll have a bit of an internal drama and think about calling the midwife if I don't get pummeled by X time and then I get a few gentle knocks.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

If you're worried then def give them a call. They won't mind at all if all turns out to be fine and they'd rather u contact them than not.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 04/12/2018 14:00

Thank you, I know to do that and I'm not necessarily worried. Just had a good few smacks in the last ten minutes.

It's more the question of I hope it isn't just me who is experiencing it.

Glad to hear movrmts seem to have improved. Genuinely though, If you have ‘that niggle’ then act upon it. Call your midwife, she won’t mind, that’s what she’s there for.

Orlande · 04/12/2018 14:12

Get checked, why wouldn't you?

RandomMess · 04/12/2018 14:14

Babies don't run out of room! Changes in movement can be an indicator that something isn't ok, please get checked out!

Look at the MAMA Academy website for the latest information on movements and feeling unwell etc.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 04/12/2018 14:42

Thanks everyone.

With regards to the "don't run out of room" of course they do. There is a lot less space to move about in there now than when she was kicking off the sides of my uterus back in week 13!

@AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson all the current latest medical advice disagrees with you on this point!!!

needanappp · 04/12/2018 16:57

OP they "run out of room" in a sense but that should not and does not affect how often you should feel movements. It just means that the movements may very well be different (eg rather than kicks you will feel sort of rolling maybe). But the frequency of kicks should not decrease as your baby gets bigger. Healthcare professionals are trying their hardest to stress that this information is incorrect as it leads to women not going in when they should.

I've always been told by my midwives that they would rather me go in if I am worried so don't be worried about that. They would always rather see you!

auberbene · 04/12/2018 17:02

They don't run out of room, OP. I've been told this by medical professionals.

If you're even the slightest bit concerned about movements, please get checked. It really is so so important. You won't be made to feel silly or that you've overreacted at all.

Thanks

@AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson I know that everyone else has been clear on this but please please don't feel like a nuisance and do definitely listen to the niggle. Sometimes the niggle is enough to mean that action needs to be taken, sometimes it's nothing and they will put your mind at ease and chat to you about movements.
It's not worth taking the chance.
Refer to kicks count, Tommy's and mama academy for all latest guidance re movements. Key point if you notice a difference, go get checked out.

As the baby grows so does the size of your womb...

ItIsChristmasTime · 04/12/2018 17:21

Babies don’t run out of room. At this stage any change of movements need to be checked out with the hospital (not a home doppler). A decrease or increase or just a change is all significant and could mean something very serious.

This is a useful link - from Tommy’s

Orlande · 04/12/2018 18:14

All three of mine the movements have got stronger as the baby got bigger.

If movement changed/lessened, I got checked.

Stephisaur · 04/12/2018 23:04

@AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson I’m 38 weeks and can tell you that he DEFINITELY hasn’t run out of room in there, and he’s a right chunk (regular growth scans).

They find room in there somehow. Please, if you have that niggle do call.

9 times out of 10 it will be nothing, but you don’t want to be that person who could have done something but missed the opportunity Flowers

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 05/12/2018 10:07

Thanks everyone. I've been fine and there have been movements but, as I mentioned in my OP, I have anterior placenta and a high BMI. I think I just don;t feel movements quite as much as some people.

Movements are more squirms and tumbles than kicks and when I do have a kick it is more of a push. I don't mean run out of room in the sense that there will be zero movement. I purely mean it in the sense that there is only a finite amount of space in there and a lot less space to take a swing at me than there was when she was smaller.

I have the baby buddy app anf have just got notification today at 32+1 that movements should be getting stronger now @AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson.

Maybe it's worth a call to the advice line to see what they think? They will hopefully give some reassurance.

Fwiw i have anterior placenta and high bmi and also have quiet days but do get a fair few prominent kicks as well. It is really hard to know what is right and wrong but like everyone else has said, the professionals will be more than happy to check you over.
