LOP at 36+5 - terrified

Last three appts have had ROP, ROA and now LOP. Am petrified, have heard so many awful things about back labour etc.

Do epidurals work on back labour?

Not sleeping properly and have just finished sobbing on DH.

Am already sitting up straight all the time (back and shoulders aching as result), going for walks every day and lying on my left side to sleep.

Help!

oh please don;t cry ! OP is not the end of the world

yes, labour might be slower, it might give you pain in your back..but there are plenty of things you can do to deal with that

yes, epi will stop the pain, but can also slow labour and might make it even more prolonged, especially if baby remains OP

not lying on your back, remaining active and upright during labour and being prepared will help

look at www.spinningbabies.com for advice to help turn baby now and in labour

OP babies can and do turn in labour,....plenty of time for things to change

Still time to move I would have thought so this may not be an issue for the actual labour. DS was back to back when I was examined at start of established labour, labour wasn't great but wasn't as bad as I thought would be when I heard he was back to back.

hi my baby was lop ( turned to that position the DAY i went into labour!!!! i know this as i had an examination at 12 midday and she was normal position then went into labour 9pm that night and she had turned!!) I'm not going to lie to you, the pain was immense, but my labour was all cacked up anyway as my contractions were all over the shop, and baby has pooed inside me so......HOWEVER the epidural was amazing so yes it DOES work on back labour. I had it at 3 cm!! Had an emergency cesarean at 4cms due to foetal distress but don't worry, i'm sure this was NOT to do with the fact she was OP!!! Many many women have perfectly fine OP labours, also you have plenty of time 4 her to turn. do LOTS of kneeling on all fours, this is the best exercise 4 encourahing little one to move round.

Good luck and honestly don't worry! plus TRUST ME whatever happens IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When I went for a MW appt a few weeks ago my LO was OP and all the MW said was that I'd probably want an Epidural.
She suggested crawling around, sitting back to front on a dining chair and pelvic 'swivels' on an exercise ball.
There is still time for LO to swing around. Please don't worry about it.

I am not sure what OP etc means but I had a back labour and just like anybody's labour, it was painful.

Try not to get too upset - everybody loves telling their war stories and it is so scary for a first time mum. Seriously try to relax as much as you can now. If you are not opposed to the idea have an epidural as it is the most wonderful heavenly feeling and helps so much. Tens machine was wonderful so make sure you hire one. Constant massage from a loved one is great. Be strong - you can do this, like others have said the baby could turn and when your baby is born you will feel love like you have never known and it will be so worth it.

Good luck xx

PS my best friend had her second baby on Sunday and she had an aromatherapist massage her back for three hours during labour and said that it was amazing - if your dh/dp's hand gets sore, may be you could think about it! If you are in the suffolk area I can give you her details!

forgot to say, my OP baby turned during labour, and i went from 3 cm to baby in my arms in 3 hrs 15 minutes

pethidine and gas & air

morningpaper · 22/06/2007 21:50

My back labour was much easier and quicker than my non-back labour

It's a lucky dip out there, there are squillions of factors that will effect things, please don't stress

Don't worry

ayrshirelolo · 22/06/2007 21:59

yes, epidurals do work for OP babies! I didn't fancy the idea and resisted for a few hours but eventually thought i could do with a wee bit more help than gas and air and it was LOVELY! ended up having a snooze and watching telly till 10cm, no worries! Am pg again and this time will not resist epi for so long, after all there are no prizes for suffering and as long as you and gorgeous baby are ok it really doesn't matter how you get there! Good luck and don't worry... it's all SO worth it!
