What can I take - so ill

DD brought a temp bug back from nursery about 3 weeks ago, she's been ill ever since. OH had it for about a day but after sleeping at his parents for 2 nights he was fine and I've had it for over a week now. Nose is completely blocked, all my sinus s, ears, head chest is hurting. Temp is 34.2 so not high but feel hot. Bones ache, everything aches and I can't move. Yet I'm having too look after DD because she's not well either and OH needs to work. I'm absolutely done in, physically, I'm struggling big time. Went to docs yesterday who said just take paracetamol, fluids and rest. He said he's seen it going round and it's lasting 5-6 weeks. Before I go down to chemist, might be a wasted trip. Does anyone know if I can take lemsip, strepsils, sudafed spray ANYTHING just to take the edge off a bit so I don't feel like I am dying. Docs said I couldn't take anything else but I don't trust his judgement. I am in tears I've had enough, I've picked up every bug going in this pregnancy and I'm fed up. But this is the worst I've had any illness in years. Should add I'm 27 weeks.

Follow their advice unfortunately there isn't much due to what's in the medications behind the counter try menthol crystals in a shower room so it's hot and steamy for you to breath it in it will decongest you they are at the pharmacy honey and lemon or orange another good one and obviously paracetamol...

Illness is particularly rough when pregnant so you have my sympathy, I hope you feel better soon.

You can use saline spray/drops, hot honey and lemon, vicks vapour rub and I always used olbas oil in hot water so you can breathe in the steam. If you don't want to use the olbas oil just steam will help.

Is there anyone that can come and give you a break? Family or friends who could come and stay for a few days? Or does DD go to nursery/childminder at all? If so can you pay for a few extra days? Resting as much as possible will help.

OP are you sure your temp is 34.2?
If it really is you should be contacting medical help as an adult temp below 35C is regarded as hypothermia.

As for what you can take, speak to a pharmacist, they are great for advice on what is available to you and what can be taken with what or which tablets should not be mixed.

To add I was ill when pregnant and a lot of the normal meds i.e. Strepsils, Sudafed etc were very much a no no. They contain a local anesthetic that can pass over the placental barrier.

You are pretty much limited to 'natural' cough sweets, glycerin mix instead of cough syrup etc. A pharmasist really is the best person to advise.

thanks everyone I thought as much there wasn't alot else I could take 😢 Boo pregnancy sucks sometimes. Pharmacy is about 45 mins drive, we live out in the sticks so only wanted to go if there was a chance of getting some medicine but maybe not lol. My temp has been from 34-35.5 max past week. Was 34.6 at docs yesterday, wasn't concerned just said it's past of the virus. Unfortunately no family either, we're stuck in a 1 bed atm, with 3 of us, and you know when it just doesn't help being In a confined space when you feel all groggy and stuffy anyway it feels like the germs are mutating😂 we move in 2 weeks so I'm hoping to be a bit better by then. Guess I'll just have to stick it out with the natural stuff. DD 's nursery won't take her as she's still got temp and ear infection bless her. Soon as she goes back she gets ill again so I'm in no rush to send her as I've been ill every week with a bug from nursery. Oh the joys!

That is a very low temperature. 37c is normal human body temperature.

My obstetrician told me cough syrup and strepsils are fine. As are antihistamine nasal sprays like piriteze (the first gen antihistamines). FYI I’ve just come through this at 32 weeks pregnant and I needed a course of penicillin to shift it so don’t suffer in silence for too long.

The vicks nasal inhaler is safe if you need relieve from unblocking your nose!
