How quickly does a baby go through a packet of baby wipes?

Sorry I wasn’t sure where to put this!

I was hoping to bulk buy some baby wipes. (I was hoping for something more environmentally friendly as we are using reusable nappies)

How many packets should I get for the first month?

You can get reuseable wipes too.

Pre using reuseable ones I went through roughly 1 packet a week, used to buy boxes of 12.

We have several on the go in different places but usually just pop 1 new pack in my trolley in the weekly shop and that keeps us topped up. Probably used more with a newborn though because they go more often and therefore need changing more.

About a pack a week, now DS is older a pack last 3-4 weeks. I mainly use a flannel or cotton wool and water.

Put it this way- buy either a box or jumbo pack and they won't go to waste! The more the merrier!!!

musicalmama · 30/11/2018 21:56

If you're going for reusable I'd still get standard ones as backup or cotton wool/water etc as they poop almost every change at first especially if you breastfeed. We were about 10 poops a day for first 6 weeks at least I'd say- a lot of wiping!

If youre using reusable nappies its just as easy to use reuseable wipes too. The nappylady website has lots of different ones

Fatted · 30/11/2018 21:58

Depends how much they poo and how bad it is. I have experienced situations where I've needed a whole pack of wipes for one nappy buster!!

Do not buy cheap ones. In my experience, you just have to double up.

KonaMum · 30/11/2018 22:00

Reusable wipes are amazing! So much more effective at cleaning up, no plastics involved and you can just shove them in with your nappy wash. We have 50 bamboo wipes which was a godsend when DS was very new but we could definitely get away with 20-25 now (washing every other day).

EssentialHummus · 30/11/2018 22:02

Jut buy lots, you'll be using them for the next 2 years+.

(FWIW I've gotten it down to two wipes for an average poo, whereas DH uses about 12.)

thenappylady.co.uk their premium wipes are fantastic, also look at cheekywipe system as it’s great with the clean box (which can be opened one handed) and essential oil.

A pack a week of disposable wipes, if you’re stocking up make sure you go for sensitive ones otherwise you might find that baby reacts to the them. Ds couldn’t use huggies or Johnson’s

cheminotte · 30/11/2018 22:07

If you’re changing nappies in a room with a toilet than loo roll works fine for most of it and can be flushed as well.

Thanks all!

I’ve seen some biodegradable ones I wanted to get but would like to mix them with reusable ones.

Are there any particular reusable wipes you could recommend?

I have half cheeky wipes and half from an Etsy seller. The Etsy ones are harder wearing but the cheeky wipes are a bit softer. Lots of people just cut up old T-shirts, towels or even fleece blankets to use as wipes.

I personally wouldn’t bother buying a cheeky wipes kit. We keep ours dry in the bathroom in a pile and just squirt with water as we go or wet under a tap/with a water bottle if out and about. If you want to keep them wet, any old Tupperware type box and some tap water is fine. Essential oils aren’t a good idea for at least the first 6 months.
