Induction tomorrow so scared

Hi everybody, I was told yesterday that I'm going to be induced tomorrow due to the placenta not doing what it's supposed to and having 8.6cm amniotic fluid. I'm 37 weeks and I'm absolutely petrified. I don't feel ready at all, this is my first baby and I know the process can be long and painful in comparison to natural labor. Can anybody reassure me or tell me about their experiences?
I feel so helpless!

I was also terrified of being induced, I knew from 16 weeks that I would be so had ages to build it up in my head. It was obviously painful but I only have one dc so nothing to compare it to. Don't be afraid to ask for pain relief, once I had the drip I had gas and air for 3 hours and then an epidural. It could take longer than you think so just be prepared for that. The midwives were amazing though and it'll be over before you know it. I can barely remember it now and dd is only 13 months! Good luck OP.

I was also induced, it wasn't nearly as bad as you build it up to in your head. A nearly full day of waiting around for everything to work and labour started. I didn't have anything to compare it to, but it was a building labour, not the full on labour all at once that you read about. It was all absolutely find and absolutely manageable pain wise. Your midwives will guide you. Stay strong you can do this, just think, a day closer to meeting your baby! Smile

I was induced. I was so well monitored and supported it was much better managed than my natural labour. And it was only 9 hours start to finish, 3 hours to get things started, but I got to have lunch and relax, then things ramped up slowly but baby came 3 hours after my first contraction. Try not to worry, it did hurt but you can demand pain relief (and for the love of all that’s holy get the pain relief).

It was more painful for me for sure, but I had an epidural which was the best decision in the end (even though I said I didn’t want one to start with). On the plus side it can be quicker. I know people who have had really positive inductions with very little pain relief needed so you just never know, keep all options open. I hope it goes well.

I waited a whole night in hospital before they even started my induction, be prepared for some waiting around, take stuff to keep you occupied, take a comfy pillow for your other half or birth partner and ask for a reclining chair for them. One curious can be quick or take days, I started on a Tuesday and gave birth on Thursday. If you are given gel my advice would be to try and get your body into labour spirit by walking around, bouncing on ball, I believe these things in the end helped my cervix to dilate and was able to give birth vaginally. If you're not against epidural, have it before they start you on the drip (if it comes to that). Trying to fit an epidural whilst you're having painful contractions is more risky then just having it fitted before they start you off on drip.

Also, listen to your body!! The contraction monitor was not picking up my contractions properly, midwife was looking and saying that my contractions are not demonstrating that I'm anywhere near giving birth yet. To me they hurt like hell, and the epidural wasn't working. In the end I gave up and said switch the drip off, top up my pain relief and I'm done with this because I'm in so much pain and being told I'm not anywhere near giving birth. I gave in to the fact that the next step was a c section.

The drs came and said ok the next step from here is a c section, the dr then examined me and said 'well I can tell you why your epidural hasn't been working!, you're fully dilated!'

They switched the drip back on, I pushed for 40 mins and my DS arrived. Trust your instincts and your body, not machines! Xx

I’ve had 2 spontaneous births and one induction. I had the pessary and my waters broke on their own a few hours after, and ds was born a few hours after that. I got to 7cm dilated with just paracetamol as I really didn’t think I was near to birth at all!

The induction was the easiest labour and birth, even though he was my biggest baby (9lb)
It’s really not as bad as you build it up to be in your head.

I was induced for dc2 due to a late medical condition developing and I loved it. I was terrified in advance but had a drip and epidural from the beginning. The whole thing was very controlled and measured. Dc2 arrived safely and calmly with two pushes as I was able to wait until the head was fully fully descended. It took 9 hrs from the first drip but was very relaxed. It was so different to the natural water birth I'd wanted but nice. Good luck!

I had an induction with DS2 due to gestational diabetes. I was 38+6 and only had one pessary. Coped with just gas and air. Everyone is different, but for me it was not dissimilar to DS1's spontaneous birth.

Thank you so much everybody for sharing your experiences you've really helped me relax! I'll be going in the hospital at 3pm so wish me luck!! :)
