Looking for a bag to use for a nappy bag

Hello all, looking for some advice on where to look for a nice big bag I can use for a nappy bag once my LO arrives next year. I'd like it to be roomy enough for all the junk babies require, but still look stylish. I'm not bothered about it being a "proper" nappy bag, I'd rather spend my money on a bag which looks nice! Obviously it needs to be hard-wearing roo as it will get lots of abuse use.

I had originally thought I'd buy a patterned holdall or tote from Liberty such as www.libertylondon.com/uk/regent-weekend-bag-in-iphis-canvas-1001565294.html?dwvar_420363_color=70-RED&listsrc=Bags#start=1 but was a bit horrified to see they are £500+. Don't mind spending up to £150 but anything beyond that is a bit steep IMO! the only other bags I've seen which I like are the Elodie Details bags www.elodiedetails.com/uk/stroller-stuff/diaper-bags

Any ideas?

Have a look at www.happbrand.com - they ship to the UK from LAX. I’m sure I paid about $25 for delivery but it was worth it. I have been using my bag for over a year now and it looks brand new!

mycatistoo · 29/11/2018 12:17

I probably bought 15+ different nappy bags. Blush

Heads and shoulders above the rest is JuJuBe and American brand. They're just amazing in every way. Can throw in the washing machine, loads of pockets, tons of different styles and prints.

I had this one which I really liked, they do other colours too. It's a decent size and is still in good condition after 2.5 years of daily use.

I have this one (bought before the sale unfortunately) it's nicer in person than the picture

detachablehoof · 29/11/2018 12:28

Thanks ladies... will take a look at them.

Should add, I want something that doesn't look like a nappy bag - more like an oversized handbag or small holdall.

@thesnobbymiddleclassone I thought of Cath Kidston too! Think that sort of patterned but wipe clean fabric would be perfect. But all the prints are too country-ish for me. (I've been spoilt by looking at those Liberty bags haven't I!)

I had a Gucci changing bag, second hand on eBay for £225, £800+ new but it was immaculate

MrsStrowman · 29/11/2018 12:30

The liberty ones are lovely, just a little bit out of my price range!

I have my eye on this one from Joules - however it’s my third DC and I have two changing bags already, can’t justify another so I’m hoping Santa sees this 🎅🏻😂

Pacapod!

Amazing and looks like a nice bag or holdall!

Hmm had another look at Cath Kidston and maybe this would work www.cathkidston.com/cath-kidston/anemone-bouquet-oversized-changing-bag-1026894
but really they are a bit too shabby chic for me! Wish they had leather handles too. Also don't want anything too flowery as I don't know whether I'm having a boy or a girl (although, it's ME that carries the bag around so guess it doesn't really matter!)

@mrsstrowman Liberty is out of my price range too, sadly!!

@stylishmummy ooh going to have to look up Gucci now!

It's kind of bizarre - I have several "nice" handbags (Coach, Kate Spade, MK, Paul Smith etc) and am happy to spend that sort of money on another one to use for a nappy bag, but nothing quite fits the bill!

I'm not really into patterned bags but I have a Storksak one in browny grey with tan leather handles that's quite like a large handbag
It fits everything + looks smart

Mia Tui make lovely bags including their changing bags -

I’ve got this one for DC2 due in March - it’s won some sort of award this year too apparently. Doesn’t look like a changing bag, not too expensive and had all the accessories you need (insulated pockets, changing mat, buggy clips etc)

Haven’t used it yet but can’t wait to start Grin

HoustonBess · 29/11/2018 13:17

I am not a fan of nappy bags. What you want depends a bit on lifestyle choices once the baby comes, for example how will you be getting around mostly? An over-the-shoulder bag quickly becomes very annoying if you're walking a long way or using a sling. It's ok if you just nip to the car I suppose.
I just went for a normal rucksack with a skip hop combined changing mat/nappy storage thing in the end. Got rid of the nappy bag I had, things always fell out of it and it fell off my shoulder a lot.

wimbler · 29/11/2018 14:03

have you looked at the Jem&Bea ones? I've got a backpack one from them but they do holdalls too. As do Tiba & Marl

RiskIt4Biscuit · 29/11/2018 17:12

I have bought a Longchamp Le Pliage travel bag that can be made bigger if need be: uk.longchamp.com/products/le-pliage/travel-bag/l1911089556

I’m thinking that I can use it for travelling later on as well.

LeeMiller · 29/11/2018 17:43

My friend has a lovely Tiba and Marl one. Personally I've just bought a rucksack though as I am planning on using a sling/carrier.

twobambinos · 29/11/2018 17:58

As another posted said above think about your lifestyle. Will you want the bag to clip onto a buggy. I went for storksak poppy luxe this time. It can go on shoulder or as a back pack also it clips onto the buggy. It's my 3rd baby and I too have several nice bags Kate spade being my favourite. But when you look at cost per wear I think any new baby bag works out fairly reasonable if you'll be using it daily for say a year.

chloechloe · 29/11/2018 19:05

I’ve just had DC3 and will be treating myself to a new Longchamp Le Pliage:

uk.longchamp.com/products/le-pliage-neo/top-handle-m/l1515578001

They’re great because they’re really lightweight and can be wiped down after the inevitable spills. I also throw mine in the washing machine when it gets too grubby.

You do need to have things in small bags or pouches though, otherwise it’s hard to find stuff. I tend to have a cloth bag inside with a change if clothes then a waterproof bag with nappies and wipes etc.

littlebug19 · 29/11/2018 19:10

I spent AGES looking for a similar bag - I wanted something that looked like a normal bag but was practical too.

I really wanted the Jem + Bea Jemima bag, but as that was slightly out of my price range I went for the Tiba and Marl Raf holdall. I love it and I'm using it as baby's hospital bag too x
