Excuse the rant - but am looking for something chic and elegant for a black tie event that surprise surprise is not black and actually has some flair!
I have now looked and tried on quite a few dresses and want to know the following: how many women out there are lucky enough to wear strapless / spaghetti strapped dresses? Pre pregnancy - no problem, but since I have been 6 weeks gone (am now 26 weeks), my boobs that are now boulders have needed the most impressive scaffolding!
I am so beyond frustrated! There are so many pretty dresses, just driven to Crave on the kings road to try on a sparkly dress and underneath the lovely widestrapped top layer is a strappy flimsy camisole????? remove the cami and dress is totally see through. I give up and will attend said event in a boring bland black dress! So much for trying to be sexy and pregnant!
Rant over

Now now Dal21, everyone knows you are meant to wear necklines up to your chin and your hem is meant to be down to your [swollen] ankles. As for sparkly - forget it!!! That's only for non-MILFs-to-be!!!

Isabella Oliver?

lemonaid · 22/06/2007 14:58

Tiffany Rose? Admittedly they have a lot of strapless things but also some that aren't (although it's a bit random whether things are under "occasion dresses", "wedding dresses", "new arrivals" or all three).

Flat chested spinsters in my opinion!

I've just been trying to find a decent maternity swim suit. All the nice ones leave me looking like I'm auditioning for a page 3 spread . I've ended up with a frumpy tankini as I can't face flashing my chest at the local pool.

ordered a dress from tiffany rose - not at all cheap and it honestly looks really cheap and nasty. have sent it back. looked everywhere else and unless i go for black, nothing around.

lol RGP - U speak the truth i feel.

and isabella oliver - lovely stuff, but most of their clothes are modelled on women who dont look pregnant! they have a black strapless floor length number and the girl looks lovely - but so so thin. granted i am still a 10 (pregnancy 10 obv) - but i have a layer of padding i didnt have when i fell pregnant - i wish they would show their dresses on a normal looking pregnant woman! might make me want to order something.

have re-signed myself to having to settle for something utterly boring.

Interesting about Tiffany Rose (although annoying for you) -- I'd never actually ordered anything from them (didn't have enough formal occasions to justify it when pregnant with DS) but had thought they looked good quality. That's another one crossed off the list for a hypothetical next time, then...

lemonaid · 22/06/2007 18:35

Local seamstress to make you one?

dal21 · 22/06/2007 18:40

Thanks LA - but have a week to find something, so will have to settle with whatever i can find. I just wanted something fabulous, it is a college gaudy (reunion) so i wanted to look fab in front of people i havent seen for years! am actually regretting booking us in to go - i knew i was pg when i booked it, just didnt think i would have this problem.

Have you tried Formes? They have loads more in store than on web site. Or Debenhams do a range - not sure what it is like but they are on-line. Home Mummy also do some nice things.

kyala · 22/06/2007 19:04

I posted a message for a mum who was after a wedding dress, same goes for you (I know you only have a week but it's do-able, depending on whereabouts you are!)

message as follows>>>>
"I know this is really cheeky but I'm a dress maker and could do you a nice one in silk/satin/chiffon! If you're interested just let me know

Here's a couple of patterns:
