Sure Start Maternity Grant Help

Hi everyone. Please could you give me a little insight on this.

I am on statutory maternity pay (SMP) so I earn £580.72 a month. My partner is on contributionary JSA so he earns £292 a month. We have recently become entitled to child tax credits at a rate of £42.29 a week. So this is £169.19 per month. I applied for this £500 grant on Monday 26th of November and I'm wondering if I will be entitled to it? And how long does the process actually take? I haven't received a text to say they have it yet either. I know you have up until the baby is 6 months old to apply.

All advice welcome!

Is it income based JSA?

laurenluke2017 · 28/11/2018 22:33

It's contributionary JSA. but we are on child tax which I believe is higher than the family element. We receive £169.19 a month which totals nearly £2,038.28 a year. So it's higher than the family element of £545.

You will be entitled yes, it used to be within three months not six has that changed?

Angharad07 · 28/11/2018 22:38

If you get child tax credits then you are entitled to the sure start maternity grant after the baby is born.

However, if you already receive child tax credits then I assume you already have a child? You aren’t entitled to claim the grant for a second child.

Oh just re-read and saw that you might be claiming for your 1st baby- yes, you will be entitled.

This is my first baby. You can claim until the baby is 6 months old now.
