Downs Screening RESULT

I've had my results as 'low risk' with a result of 1 in 2877.

Measurements were 1.6

Is this good?

In all honestly, what do you think?

Kayleigh121 · 28/11/2018 19:06

Better than mine so yes. I have 1 in 110 for downs & 1 in 140 for Edwards. 2.1mm

JustMe18 · 28/11/2018 19:19

I asked because I've heard people's results, for both, being 1 in the hundreds of thousands.

I'm sorry if I've pissed anyone off.

Yes, it’s low risk

SoyDora · 28/11/2018 19:20

As they’ve told you, it’s low risk.

Eeeeek2 · 28/11/2018 19:21

In my area anything over 1 in 250 is low risk

frogsoup · 28/11/2018 19:25

To reverse things a bit, if there were 1877 people in a room and one of them was going to win a million pounds, how hopeful would you be that you'd be the one picked? I think you must know that the answer is 'not very'...

frogsoup · 28/11/2018 19:25

2877, even!

JustMe18 · 28/11/2018 19:28

Thank you.

I really appreciate everyone's input.

I'm sorry to have bothered you all.

@JustMe18 it was a valid question. Don't feel bad. The medical jargon can be overwhelming, especially when you are feeling worried. Glad it went well for you.

JustMe18 · 28/11/2018 20:04

@Liverbird77 Thank you. I didn't mean to be a pain in the arse. My husband is away, with work, so I have nobody else to discuss it with until tomorrow x

@justme18 it was a valid question, but seriously, I wouldn’t give this anymore headspace - believe what the letter says when it says low risk, appreciate that it means there is a 0.03% chance that your baby has Down’s syndrome, and move on with your week. That kid is going to give you plenty more things to worry about, don’t let this one get to you.

JustMe18 · 28/11/2018 20:41

@mumofmunchkin Thank you. I've moved on, mentally, and got the 20 weeks scan to 'look forward to' Wink

Don't feel bad, I remember having a 1 in 5000 and something result and thinking that didn't sound that low risk until I discussed it with friends and then I really did feel bad as my friend had a high risk result and had further tests. All was fine for her little one despite the high risk result but it gave me a reality check. X

Ragaroo · 28/11/2018 21:07

My downs risk was 1 in 67 but my harmony test gave me the all clear. It really doesn't mean much, the initial screening is so inaccurate. The structure of the baby (eg. Heart etc) at your scans is more important.

Treaclepie19 · 29/11/2018 09:04

Yep. With my first son I had 1 in 8000 and that felt high compared to other people.
This time I had a 1 in 5 and my was 5.1 so obviously a very high risk. It's not downs but possibly something else.

BertramKibbler · 29/11/2018 09:05

In my area they don’t tel you that stats, just low or high risk. Probably for this reason!

SoyDora · 29/11/2018 09:14

Same in mine BertramKibbler. Anything less than a 1:150 risk is considered ‘low risk’ and that’s all the information they give you.

brodiee · 29/11/2018 15:44

I had 1 in 8 for Down's syndrome with my eldest. Anything 1 in 150 and lower is high risk. So your results are very good - please don't worry x

JustMe18 · 29/11/2018 16:05

Thank you everyone xx
