sorry, I don't know. Didn't want to let this thread slip out of active convos though.

It is possible that you've been having wind though, and not feeling the baby move. 12 weeks is very, very early so I would think either your dates are wrong or you are mistaken about what you have been feeling.

If you are worried though, call the midwife and she may be able to put your mind at rest in some way.

sniff · 22/06/2007 10:28

can u not pop to epu and ask them to run a trace to put your mind at rest,
I dont know if they do that this early but if you explain that you coud feel something and now you cant they might

Princesspowersparkle · 22/06/2007 10:29

HI meemeee
At 16 weeks your MW may be able to find the HB so maybe ask her if she can do this for you to put your mind at rest (although you run the risk of her not finding it due to how baby is laying).
At 16 weeks baby is still tiny and may have just moved position so you can't feel it. I would try not to worry too much but call your MW anyway.

Whens your next mw appt? Maybe if you phoned her and said you felt like your symptoms wee diminished ( without being too specific) and asked to see her she could find hb for you and put your mind at rest. I agree with Squok that although it's possible it's very rare to feel movement at 12 weeks

meemeee · 22/06/2007 10:35

I wont have another appointment for 4 weeks! Heard HB on Tuesday but was feeling movement all day and stopped from Wed. When I was pregnant with ds1 I called mw at 19 weeks to say I couldnt feel much and they were v patronising so this time I called my doctor instead but he cant see me till next week

ring the midwife, or the epu and explain that you are worried.

Do not take any flannel. If you are worried, you are worried, whether they believe that you have grounds to be or not.

Insist that someone sees you and puts your mind at rest.

good luck

Princesspowersparkle · 22/06/2007 10:42

Yep- listen to Squonk. If you are worried make someone listen to you!!
Hope your mind gets put at ease soon

I wouldn't want to put you off speaking to your mw if you are worried, you should. I just wanted to say that I had pretty intermittant sensations of the baby from 17 weeks to about 21 weeks. I really worried when I hadn't felt him for a couple of days, but then he'd come back. I'm not sure if that helps, but I think at first the movements can be a bit intermittant. But do call your mw for some reassurance...

meemeee · 22/06/2007 15:32

Tx Mrsmr ive been waiting to hear if anyone had the same experience, makes me feel much better. Ive made an appointment for Monday and will be keeping fingers crossed to feel something before then!

at this stage baby has lots of room to move and hide

i think the position of the placenta can make a difference too.

cupcake78 · 22/06/2007 15:37

I was told to lie on my left side for two hours after eating or just lie on your back in bed, again after eating and you have more chance of feeling something.

At 16 weeks you will only feel big movements so baby may be moving but you can't feel everything.

If you are really worried insist that you see a midwife!!

LilRedWG · 22/06/2007 15:40

Even later in pregnancy DD used to manage to hide from me. My midwife said that if she had turned to face my spine I wouldn't really feel much as she was punching and kicking an area with little or no sensation.

At 26 weeks I was having regular BHs and had felt no movement all day. I ended up in delivery. As soon as they tried to put the trace on me, DD kicked at it with all her might and didn't stop for the next hour! Again, they said she had probably been facing the back.

Try not to worry (easier said than done) but if you can't wait until Monday call the MW and insist on being seen or call your GP and request that he refers you to the EPU.

Good luck!

potoroo · 22/06/2007 15:59

meemeee,
Definitely try to speak to your midwife - if for no other reason to put your mind at rest.

If it helps at all, babies do sometimes have quiet days. Also, if they are kicking inwards you are less likely to feel it.

meemeee · 22/06/2007 16:22

I know its really bad but I just hate contacting them (MW) they always give me the feeling that im a being silly etc.. this is the 3rd day that I havnt felt anything after a couple of weeks of quite regular flutters. Could it be that baby is in a funny position for this long?

OP posts:
Princesspowersparkle · 22/06/2007 16:27

Meemeee- yes defnitely possible. It still has soooooo much room and can easily flip around, do a handstand or whatever. It might be that as they've got a bit bigger they've found a position they prefer and have stayed there for a few days. Maybe kicking your back or the placenta.
I'm like you about calling MW but at the end of the day they are there to reassure you and to make sure all is well with your baby. Give her a call if you are this worried.
Try some of the things the girls have suggested. Lay on your left for a while, drink something really cold etc.

sazzybee · 22/06/2007 22:08

it's really early for you to be feeling anything so he/she has probably just floated off to another place like others say. But honestly do call your mw and have her have a quick listen with a doppler to put your mind at rest.

Do not ask anyone who is unfamiliar with dopplers to have a listen though - I had a heavy bleed at 15 weeks and had an A&E doc try and fail to find a heartbeat which was dreadful but it was just because he didn't know what he was doing - my 3 MO DS is now asleep in the bedroom

bling1 · 24/06/2007 00:07

Hi Meemeee - if it's any consolation I'm 20 weeks, started feeling babs at about 18 off and on, and I haven't felt anything today and only a couple of flutters yesterday and day before. I've been prodding him/her but proving to be as stubborn as his/her parents!

My friend's assured me she had the same and having looked it up on nhs and other pregnancy related websites it's common not to feel the baby regularly until around 24 weeks ish. But if you're worried then you have to ring the MW - you'll feel neurotic but it doesn't matter - I had a scan at 13 wks after a minor bleed with a doctor who had seen all manner of stressed mums before but it's worth it! Hope you get on ok.

meemeee · 25/06/2007 12:03
