20 week scan - echogenic focus in heart

Hi everyone :) I'm 20w 5d pregnant with my 2nd baby and we had the 20 week anomaly scan today. All went absolutely fine, but the sonographer did have to go and ask one of the cardiologists as she saw an 'echogenic focus' on baby's heart (looked like a white blob on the heart?)

She came back and told us that it's really common and not to worry, and they only worry if it's not getting any blood supply, which it is. There's no follow up planned or anything so she said all is absolutely fine.

Me being me decided to start Googling and I did see that it can indicate an increased risk of Down's syndrome :( I took the combined screening at 12 weeks and they gave me a 1 in 2729 risk of Down's syndrome, which is obviously low but it does make me worry knowing it could be more of a risk :(

Has anyone else had this?

Hi! i know this is an old thread, but wondering how you got along <3 currently going through the same

Hi 😊 everything was absolutely fine and there were no problems - he’s now a healthy 3 year old boy. if there’s no other issues I’m sure everything will be fine for your baby 😊

thanks so much for your reply and so happy everything turned out okay for you! they reassured me it was an isolated finding and my first & second trimester screening had come back 1 in 7800 for DS, feeling much better :)

No problem 😊 mine was an isolated finding too and even though they say things are fine it still plays on your mind doesn’t it! With your screening result I’m sure things will be absolutely fine for you

All the best :)
