Hi, HFM is in dd's creche. I'm 15 weeks pregnant. Is there a risk to my pregnancy if she catches it (which is looking likely)?

I was in the same position as you 2 years ago and was told that it was fine by my Dr.

Ok. I feel a lot better.

My son had it when I was 6 weeks. Doctor advised monitoring my temperature as that's the main threat if you catch it. I didn't even get it, apparently HFM is quite rare for adults to catch, but if you do keep your temperature down with paracetamol.

It was quite nasty for poor DS, especially the nappy rash part, but it passed very quickly.

Hopefully she won't get it at all but I'm not hopeful as they're always on top of each other and putting everything in their mouths. I'm going to buy a vat of alcohol gel for myself!

My husband got it though - he was worse than my son Hmm

Toddler daughter and husband had it a few weeks ago when I was about 11
weeks pregnant. Daughter had it mildly and husband had it really bad. I didnt get it at all so you may be lucky.

Even if you do, it’s usually listed as a risk as any thing that causes high temperature is a risk for pregnant women as an extreme temperature can harm babies in early development stages. However, most don’t get really bad temperatures with hand, foot and mouth and even if they do there can be no impact on the baby at all.

Basically, it’s one of those things listed as bad but that would be a real worse case scenario.
