pubic topiary maintenance

I'm 26 weeks now and usually keep my pubes trimmed, but it's getting harder and harder to reach/see with the bump in the way. Is there any solution to this? Feel a bit weird asking DP to do it for me. I don't like having a full bush but I also don't like being absolutely hairless - nevertheless I'm tempted to just get everything waxed off periodically for maintenance purposes.

Are there any tricks I'm missing here?

Not easy is it. I have a big mirror in my bathroom and just do what I can lol. X

Worieddd · 26/11/2018 15:23

Also don’t like a bush - I just go for it in the shower with a razor and lots of shaving foam. It’s not as tidy as I’d like but it’s better than nothing.

Bouncer4me · 26/11/2018 16:19

I just get my hubby to do mine it’s much easier that way 😀😀

I'm currently 33 weeks and have resorted to using Veet. Trimmed everything very short then used it for the prescribed 10 mins...it didn't take everything off straight away but I applied it again a few days later (they recommend leaving it 72hrs between uses) and now I just keep on top of it

Stephisaur · 26/11/2018 16:49

I have some haircutting scissors. I VERY carefully feel with them and trim it that way.

DH tells me it ends up a little patchy but it does the job!

ladycarlotta · 26/11/2018 17:09

Thanks all! So I think the consensus is just do what you can and risk a patchy Catweazle finish? Veet is quite a good idea @pumpkinspice22 - the regrowth from that tends to be better for me than waxing.

@Stephisaur - snap!

Celebelly · 26/11/2018 19:06

I'm going to let DP attack it with his beard trimmer soon. I figure he's going to see much worse than that shortly!

Racecardriver · 26/11/2018 19:10

Why can’t you do it in a mirror?

Angelmiracle · 26/11/2018 19:38

Hi @ladycarlotta! I get sugaring done and find it lasts much better than waxing. I get 4-5 weeks out of it.

sar302 · 26/11/2018 19:39

This is definitely the time to pay a professional!

harrypotterfan1604 · 26/11/2018 19:42

I tried veet and Jesus Christ the burn 😭!
I’m 34 weeks and I just go for it with a razor now and hope for the best, it’s not perfect but good enough 🙈

Darkstar4855 · 26/11/2018 21:04

Another vote here for Veet! I use that around the edges and then trim the hairs in the middle as best I can by feel. I don’t think the end result looks brilliant but I feel cleaner this way than having loads of hair there!

ladycarlotta · 26/11/2018 22:42

oh god, the idea of blades around my nethers at this delicate time freaks me out no end. I do clipper but have had a few - lol - close shaves lately. Veet, waxing or sugaring feel a bit more reassuring. It's time to spoil myself, dammit, I'll get a professional to pull all my hair out at the roots.

@racecardriver very mumsnet delivery, thanks. I think I'd need a system of mirrors to see round the bump tbh and suspect it would be more complicated than just going in blind.

Racecardriver · 26/11/2018 23:40

Ah, that sounds unfortunate. Maybe if you go into a waxing place you could pay them to just trim it?

Pigeoncat · 27/11/2018 00:13

I gave up the shaving game when I got to about 7 months. It did mean a midwife had to shave me before my emergency c section, which was interesting!

tasharichford · 27/11/2018 00:20

Ugh I'm 32 weeks and tried to prune the bush the other week. Went in shower and done it blind just by touch, felt like I'd done a good job till I got out and looked in the mirror...I'm now the proud owner of a mowhawk Blush

TealTurnip · 27/11/2018 00:29

I gave up. I decided I was in enough pain from being pregnant, the last thing I needed was more pain or itching. Then I gave birth and my pubic hairstyle was the least of my worries with regard to what it looked like down there!

smellsofelderberries · 27/11/2018 11:03

I did no maintenance before DD was born (usually use a men's beard trimmer so just keep things tidy) and I regretted it hugely. Keeping things clean with that much bush (about 12 weeks of growth) was really hard. I remember freaking out in my first shower thinking I had stitches everywhere, and realised later it was actually hair matted with blood Shock opting for an ELCS for DC2 but keeping on top of bush maintenance to make postpartum easier!

FirstTimeBumps · 27/11/2018 17:53

@pumpkinspice22 veet? Does that stop irritating regrowth or do you still get that. I've gone wild during the later half of pregnancy because I just can't bare the thought of being huge, in pain, hot, and itchy and uncomfortable and was planning to get a professional wax prior to birth but just dawned on me getting an appointment in a salon on December might be a big ask

ladycarlotta · 27/11/2018 19:30

@smellsofelderberries argh where's the screaming emoji?! I hadn't even considered post-partum fallout. That's reason to maintain if ever I heard one.

@FirstTimeBumps one of the reasons I never bother shaving everything off is the horrendous regrowth and ingrown hairs I get from it. In my experience that hasn't been a problem with Veet, but then I've never used it on the whole thing.

OP posts:
pumpkinspice22 · 27/11/2018 21:55

@FirstTimeBumps not as much of a problem with regrowth as waxing. I'm too much of a wimp to bother with waxing in general, and I hear it's a lot more painful whilst pregnant due to increased sensitivity (because of increased blood volume? )
