best baby monitor?

looking for some helpful reviews of baby monitors please!

i'm 36 weeks and feel that i've left this to the very end because I just have no clue! (first baby, no one around me had a baby in last 3 years)

I've been told angelcare monitor with movement sensor pad is worth it for peace of mind but then on the other hand it can make you extremely paranoid plus you've got to switch it off every time you take baby out of crib to avoid alarm going off (I would forget in middle of night!)

these are ideally my requirements;

  • camera/sound option
-clear screen when on night mode
  • would like to be able to talk through it (not necessary)
  • good range (can take it to other end of house)

ive heard the new Motorola one is no where near as good as the older version?

just anybody with any experience of a good baby monitor that has lasted please!

Hi, I have the Motorola, it’s about 1.5 years old so not the new model. We actually found the angelcare poor and returned this through it being faulty then the replacement was also not working well. I wouldn’t recommend it. Our Motorola has two pads and i can’t reccomend it enough. Now we don’t use the pads anymore but still use the camera and sound monitor which is handy.

Hi thanks for the reply, which model is this one? as i'm worried this may be the older model of the one we were looking at, and all reviews have said the new model is much worse and you cant buy the old model anymore

I'm going to sound like a paranoid wreck now..we had an angelcare and I ended up taking it down and buying a really cheap one.

Watched a programme (can't remember what is was called, think it was on bbc1) showing how easy it is for people all around the world to connect to devices in your home.
Baby monitors are one of the easiest! They were showing how easy it was, and accessed loads of baby monitors in the UK in seconds! Showing babies in their cots..it was horrific and scared me to death! The presenters contacted all the parents who immediately stopped using them.

Get one that doesn't need wi-fi, save yourself lots of money getting a basic one aswell..more to spend on other things!

At least you know for sure their isn't some horrible weirdo watching 😖

We have the BT baby monitors - 4 years old and 2 years old - both monitors still going very strong. The range is bloody excellent (I can take it into the garden and hang out washing etc) The 4 year old one has lots of options like light show, music etc The 2 year old one is more basic but still has great range. DC 3 due soon and will be recycling the oldest one and 2 year old one still in use.
I think there are a variety with camera options too. I recommend them and if ours broke would replace with same.

Motorola MBP483 Digital Video Monitor

This is the one I have op and we would recommend it

@Sunisshining5346 that’s so unsettling, i’m pleased ours is just an ordinary plug in monitor now with no frills.

My son is 30 months and we are on our second which happens to be an angel care and is on its last legs. We previously had a Phillips which was fantastic (illuminates when baby cries, adjustable camera) but the socket for the wire caved in. Angel care has to be plugged in constantly and, again, it is the socket for the wire that seems to be giving in and it will just turn itself off.

I know that is not helpful. I would however highly recommend a sound-activated screen. We have missed that a lot with the second.

Forgot to say op ours was the babysense bundle and came with 2 movement pads too

@cocobana I know it's horrendous isn't it! Will try and find a link to it for you to watch, I think when people see how easy it is they will soon change their mind!

One family had been watched over 3000 times in nine different countries!

Cocobana · 26/11/2018 15:34

@Sunisshining5346 it’s horrific, we don’t use a WiFi monitor thank god. It’s the same if you leave your webcam on on your pc it’s so scary these days. Those families must have felt so violated, how awful.
