38 weeks and completely exhausted- is this normal?

So I'm 38+3 weeks with our first baby and have been on maternity leave for 2 weeks now. I had this vision of getting all this stuff done round the house etc., but instead I've been completely exhausted and done pretty much fuck all.

All I do is rest and sleep. Walking takes it out of me as I have quite bad pelvic pain. If I manage the 10 minute walk to the shop then I have to stop halfway on the way back and then go for a nap when I get in. I'm taking my iron pills so don't think it's anything to do with that.

Is it normal to be this tired and lazy at this stage? I don't have the energy to do anything but at the same time I'm so bored!!

Yes

Yes totally normal! It's the reason they let you start maternity leave before the baby comes... Because you're knackered!

Notlostjustexploring · 25/11/2018 21:44

Yup!! I'm about the same stage along, but with my second. Massive to do list, but I'm currently sleeping so much I'm actually rivalling the cat!
I'm now ignoring my to do list, and just sleeping when I need to!

Absolutely normal. You’ve grown a human 😁 that takes vast amounts of energy.

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 21:48

Yes it’s normal. Do as little as possible because it will be your last chance of decent rest for a while.
I’m 36 weeks and absolutely bloody exhausted but have a 5 and a 3 year old which makes resting a little harder!

U r 38 weeks pregnant dear! Enjoy the rest u will be giving it up shortly..

LollyLollington · 25/11/2018 21:54

Yes completely normal! Don't feel guilty about doing not much. Relax and try to enjoy it. You will not have this much freedom once baby's here. I'm a few days behind you- just 38wks, and just making sure I have one thing to do each day- but that one thing can be pretty small- then making sure I keep reasonably up to date with washing etc. I do also have the school run to get me out of bed which helps. If I get really bored I do leisurely Christmas shopping/browsing with very regular sit down breaks in cafes. Good luck with the rest of it! Hope it becomes more enjoyable Smile

I am 39 weeks and couldn’t manage without my naps! I’ve found gentle swimming has helped a lot with back and pelvic pain - I get up and go to the early swim at my local pool then come home and go back to bed!!!

Yup totally normal. I went into labour early in my first pregnancy so I never had a chance to rest up. I’m desperately hoping I get a few weeks this time round to potter and sleep while my little one is in nursery.

Athers666 · 28/11/2018 08:01

So frustrating isn't it! I'm 37 weeks and now on mat leave, I was looking forward to it so much but it's rubbish because all I can do is sort of potter a little bit and lie around. Actually missing work!

SoyDora · 28/11/2018 08:10

Make the most of pottering a bit and lying around, honestly! You won’t get chance for a while. I’m 36 weeks with my third and pottering about and lying around is a thing of the past Grin. There isn’t much chance to nap and rest with a 5 and 3 year old.
