I posted on here a few weeks ago about a pain 'down there' and after putting up with it for about a week or so, I decided to go to antenatal unit to get checked (as it literally took me 10 mins to swing out of bed....)

Anyhoo, baby is fine and well :) and midwife suspects ive got SPD so referred me to physio.

While im waiting on the letter for apppointment to come through has anyone else got any tips on how to deal with this?
Can i still stick to my plan on hopefully being able to deliver naturally?

Im 29+5, have a high bmi (48), entire pregnancy has been a breeze up until now, (well bar morning sickness lol)

I find that sitting on my birthing ball helps. It totally sucks though :(

So..... I had SPD in my last 2 (of 3) pregnancies.

Pregnancy 2 waited weeks for physio. They told me to push on through. It's only back pain. I was weeping when sitting on the loo weeks before birth. Wondering how on earth i was going to push a baby out when I couldn't sit down to wee.

Pregnancy 3. Saw a physio very early on. Told me the opposite. Explained that it's inflammation of the bit that joins your pelvis together. So, don't walk up steep hills/ do things that you feel aggravate it. Keep the inflammation as little as you can. I followed that advice and was fine.

Hi - I’ve just been to the physio with this so I can tell you what they told me, I waited weeks and weeks for an appointment.
They recommended an ice pack for 15 mins everyday over the front of your pelvis and if you know you will have a busier day, do it in advance. I’ve been given a support belt to help stabilise when I walk so maybe look online for one? Exercise wise, they said walking in the swimming pool is best as less intense on your joints than normal walking.

I don’t want to say particular exercises as that depends where the pain is I think and I wouldn’t want to cause you any more hurt. But just be careful how you get out of the bed and move around, keep legs together where possible.

Hope that helps!? Good luck!! Xxx

@Theresahairbrushinthefridge omg 'its only back pain'!! How insensitive!!

@le42 && @stephisaur going to maybe look into a birthing ball and I wanted to do aquanatal weeks ago but the idea of a swimming costume gives me nightmares 😱

@captainshortie - I was actually told by the physio that the birthing ball isn’t what they recommend (could just be in my case, it’s not one size fits all) as it de-stabalises my pelvis. And they said no actual swimmimg, literally just walking.... 😂
Pre pregnancy I worked out every day, so all of this has been a huge shock to my system!

Hope you find some relief!

captainshortie · 25/11/2018 19:07

@le42 I can imagine!! My midwife said try an ice pack, but found it seized me up more, so hot water bottle is my friend!
Plus its farrrrr to cold up north to be sitting on an ice pack!! Grin
Still trying to find right position with my maternity pillow, its v shaped and havent mastered rolling over with my knees together (ofcourse my cat who refuses to move doesnt help! Haha)

Had SPD since 20 weeks this time around (baby due any day). Still planning a home birth. Physio, osteopath and bump bands weren’t that helpful for me personally. I found just avoiding anything that aggravates the SPD is best - so no walking, stairs, keep legs together getting out of bed etc. Really pay for it the next day if I do walk... Still swimming but arms only (using a float for legs) and use a birth ball every day to ease the stiffness and pain. Like pp have said, you’re just going to need to find out what works for you.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/11/2018 19:10

I just wrapped myself round a pregnancy pillow and did very little- it sucks.
FYI I delivered naturally, no drugs no tears- very lucky, the spd was irrelevant

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 25/11/2018 19:13

SPD does not effect birth at all. No idea why. Didn't believe anyone who told me. But it was true for me.
