Shettles/gender swaying/influencing sex of baby

Ok so I posted this as a bit of fun. I personally don’t care if I had a boy or a girl, as long as they’re healthy why does it matter. However I do find this topic interesting. Has anybody actually tried to influence the sex of their baby? From what I understand... if you have sex on the day of ovulation you’re more likely to have a boy as the male sperm is supposedly faster. However if you do it a few days before you’re more likely to have a girl as the female sperm lives longer. I’ve also read you’re more likely to have a boy if you eat lots of bananas, orgasm first, do it standing up, and ensure you’re partner avoids hot baths. Confused I know my partner would prefer a boy but let’s face it, unless any of you prove it otherwise, you cannot pick and choose!

Well this doesn't prove anything & is almost certainly coincidence, but I can tell you that I have three boys & I'm as certain as I can be that they were all conceived on the day of ovulation.

Yes I know a couple of people who have tried the timing trick and got the boy/girl they wanted - including my own mum when she conceived my little brother! It's not guaranteed of course - it can only theoretically sway the odds - so it's hard to scientifically test.

Shettles method has been completely disproved as it was based on a false premise.

I got pregnant on the day of ovulation (possibly a couple of hours after - I have a little bleed when I ovulate so can guess) - it's a girl. With Both my boys i had sex 2-3 days prior to ovulation so I don't believe in Shettles. I think diet might have something to do with it if anything does - that's the only thing that was wildly different between my babies.

@Nightlights do you mind me asking what you mean by your diet being wildly different?

I’m a bit of a biology geek and love anything like this.

Sure, I was trying to lose weight and on a really restricted diet this time. With my boys I ate very well - lots of protein, pretty healthy, loads of oats and mugs of tea! This time I lived on coffee to stop myself eating and I stuck to salads and yoghurt mainly in day. Had normal dinner in eve cos of rest of family but in the day it was v light. I wasn't actually expecting to get pregnant and then I worried that I hadn't been eating properly! Have made up for it since though Wink

The only thing that determines the sex is the sperm, so no sex positons, dieting or timing is going to 'sway' the result. The male sperm being faster/ female sperm living longer may have an influence but it will be so individual to the man. Plus, some men only produce sperm of one sex, a friend of ours is one of 20+ half siblings and all are boys.

20+ 😱
(Misses point of thread!)

My ivf baby is a girl. Ivf shouldn't result in girls if this theory holds any weight... so it's hokum.

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 15:49

The thing is, it has been scientifically disproved.

blueberry71 · 25/11/2018 15:52

Don't think shettles works at all. Both my daughters were conceived basically on ovulation day.
