Wetherspoons veggie burger

Bit worried as I had a veggie burger at wetherspoons which was lovely it apparently was a veggie burger with pico fe gallo. Hummus and guacamole with rocket, not sure if it was a herb in the pico de gallo but I swear I tasted cheese :-/ DH said that if it had cheese it would say. Could just be my taste buds or hopefully it was a hard cheese.

I assume it would be cooked though.

RCohle · 24/11/2018 15:18

Why don't you check the ingredients online?

To be honest, the chances of them putting one of the specific soft cheeses you can't eat during pregnancy in their veggie burger toppings and not mentioning it on the menu seem really small. Cheese is not a normal ingredient in pico de gallo.

Are you quite anxious in general?

LeslieYep · 24/11/2018 15:24

But you can have cheese! As long as it's pasteurised you're fine and pubs would never put unpasteurised food out to customers surely..?

Nothisispatrick · 24/11/2018 15:51

What’s wrong with cheese Confused

Pebblespony · 24/11/2018 15:55

I mean this is the nicest way OP but if this level of pregnancy anxiety is usual, you will drive yourself mad by the time you have the baby. This is very much a non-issue. I'm pregnant too and thought I was worrying unnecessarily but this is a whole new level.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/11/2018 15:57

Pico de Gallo is a tomato salsa type sauce, never heard of it containing cheese.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 24/11/2018 16:07

Any cheese that's cooked is fine.

Pebblespony · 24/11/2018 16:10

Sorry OP. I was a bit harsh there.

HannahBlack1992 · 24/11/2018 16:10

Yes I get very anxious about everything I eat, my MW knows and tells me to relax. It was more I was worried it could be one of the soft cheeses we are supposed to avoid and wasn't sure if they put it in the hummus or guac. I looked online yo see if it did but it doesn't say anything other than its no longer vegan but I guess that's cos of the brioche bun.

If you're that anxious about everything you eat I'd recommend not eating out until you're no longer pregnant.
Who knows what those pesky restaurant chefs really put in the food they serve? Hmm

Owletty · 24/11/2018 16:17

Wetherspoons is a huge chain. It wouldn't have soft cheese in the sauces that was unpasteurised.

As I'm sure you already know unpasteurised hard cheese is fine.

Hermano · 24/11/2018 16:28

Do you feel ill? The reason to avoid soft cheese etc is possible listeria poisoning. The chance is so small, there's nothing inherently bad in eating it other than that. It's not like having a cigarette or three glasses of wine.

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 24/11/2018 16:28

OP, you’ve posted a number of threads worrying about things you’ve eaten/want to eat. It must be exhausting.

Does your midwife know the extent of your anxiety? Has she referred you to any available supports?

HannahBlack1992 · 24/11/2018 16:38

It is and she does. Im very nervous about any harm coming to my baby anyway, dont know what's in many foods nowadays and there is so much said online about everything being bad for the baby. Haven't got a meeting with her until the 14th so will have to talk about it then. Thank you all for your help.

Isn’t the food risk just that you could get food poisoning which could harm baby ... if you feel fine then there is no damage. It’s not like smoking which does long term damage. ... you’re more likely to do damage by constantly worrying I think the stress is more harmful. Could you maybe get some counselling support for anxiety? Or alternatively why not only eat food you’ve prepared?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/11/2018 16:46

If there were cheese in it, it'd be listed because of the allergen identification rules

ThanksItHasPockets · 24/11/2018 18:52

Pico de gallo isn’t cheese. Hummus and guacamole don’t contain cheese. You probably have a heightened sense of smell which makes you more sensitive to certain tastes than before.

Even if the burger had contained one of the cheeses that the NHS advises pregnant women to avoid, it would have been cooked and therefore safe.
