Hi,
I've just been told that I'm having my 6th mc and it's a mmc as it looks like the baby died about 2-3 weeks ago, I have been booked in for a d and c as they want to do testing on the 'tissue' I haven't started bleeding and only slight cramps but still have some milk pregnancy symptoms.... can anyone give me any advice or anything about what I can expect? I have a two year old son and I'm wondering if I should have someone else look after him for me the day after the procedure

I should add that the baby only grew to about 5 weeks

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had an ERPC after a MMC a few years ago. I was only in for the day and the procedure itself was very quick. In terms of the procedure I remember counting down after being given the general and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I don't remember any pain other than some cramping. I hope it all goes ok for you

I had an ERPC and was so glad i did. It was over and done with within the day, no pain, just a bit of bleeding. I felt like it was good for me mentally too as it enabled me to draw a line under the whole thing. Obviously there can be complications but they’re pretty rare.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through loss yet again. FWIW I was fine to look after my DD the day after surgery but different people react differently to general anaesthetic so perhaps best to sort someone to look after your little one.

Thinking of you x

I had an erpc last year due to incomplete miscarriage under general. I'd lost a lot of blood previously so I was tired but fine physically, no pain.

I had a D&C in May it wasn't half as bad as I imagined no real pain etc & I believe the op took 20 mins. I had some stomach pain after but it was the same pain I went in with as I'd started to loose the pregancy the night before. I slept for around 3 hours after, had tea and toast then came home took 48 hours to get over it more just tired and a bit off it feeling. Make sure you have someone home with you for 48 hours. Also I bled for about 7 days after but it wasn't heavy.

Thankyou all for your replies, I'm glad to know it shouldn't be too painful, I'm half hoping I might miscarry by myself before, as I don't really want to do the d and c but I need to make sure I get the testing done that I need so hopefully we don't have to go through this again

I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

But wanted to share my experience with you. Technically yes, it is the best way to ensure everything is out of the uterus to prevent infection! However I lost so much blood after this and ended up very poorly. I've miscarried since this procedure and chose to do it naturally that time around with a pessary and tablet to start labour.

I would personally choose never to have the d+c again but everyone is different!

I hope yours goes better than mine xxx
