Sleeping in carrycot

Does anyone let their baby sleep in the carrycot part of the pram over night?

My baby is 3 weeks old and really doesn’t like his moses basket so isn’t sleeping very well but he falls asleep instantly when I put him in his pram to go out so was wondering if it would be okay to let him sleep in it over night?

I know some say they are suitable for overnight sleeping and some don’t but why would a pram not be okay for overnight sleeping?

I don’t know for sure but maybe because it’s not got breathable sides so more suffocation risk? Saying that, the thought has only occurred to me just now, DD slept in her carrycot several times when we were away from home.

Both of mine did, but I bought an extra (softer) mattress and didn't use the carrycot outside.

Prams suitable for overnight sleeping have aerated bases so you still get airflow through them. I would check and see online if the one you have is suitable for overnight sleeping.

Yes we used our carrycot for the bugaboo bee as his place to sleep when we travelled to stay with the our parents. Didn't think twice about doing this to be honest.

I think it’s to do with how breathable the base/sides are.

I plan on doing this as my family live miles away and it will be what the baby sleeps in when I'm with them. Mine is suitable for overnight and even though the pram is second hand, I got a new mattress directly from the supplier.

Yes, mine did. Didn't see the point in buying a separate Moses basket to use for a few weeks (he was a big baby and in his cot by about 3 months iirc).

We had the Uppababy one which says it is fine for overnight and bought a cheap stand from Argos so the breathable base wasn't smothered into the carpet.

I've got two sheets and two waterproof liners on the mattress, is it still safe to use for daytime sleeps? I've got the uppababy and it's on a stand so the aerated base door is open. Perhaps it's better to have just a single layre?

As pp have said above really.

Prams suitable for overnight sleep are usually breathable and have a solid, firm structure.

The icandy peach carrycot is ok for sleeping in. But the bugaboo carrycot isn't (as it's a bit floppy and not a solid structure)
