Baby Small for Dates

I'm looking for some reassurance and advice, really.

I've recently had my 20 week scan (at 22 weeks) and baby was showing small for dates.

I've had a follow up today and baby is too small (5th percentile) and poor Uterine Artery Dopplers flow was shown. I've not got high blood pressure but do have urine + for protein.

I've come home and googled and am now scared and worried. Any advice?

Hi OP, I have severe IUGR coupled with oligohydramnios and I'm bang on 30 weeks today, was diagnosed around the same gestation as you. If this is what you have, everyone is very doom and gloom in terms of medical professionals, but babies can, and extremely often do, make it :) are you seeing Fetal Medicine?

Hello! I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it and fingers crossed for you.

I'm seeing fetal medicine and have weekly appointments for bloods/urine etc. They weren't clear on the cause of the poor blood flow to the baby so I have to go back for more investigations anyway.

I'm really pleased to hear you've made it to 30 weeks - I had lots of doom and gloom today so it's good to heat. Thank you!

Poor blood flow if they can't see a problem with the rest of placenta is usually down to a knot in the cord/cord compression apparently according to my FMU consultant. I'm lucky in that my flow is very good for now. I've been admitted today and given steroids as my baby is now over 1lb, she's classed as viable :) how far behind is your little one? Mine is 7 week behind if that's any consolation for how hardy these little beans are!

Hi OP.

I have notching of my uterine artery, leading to what they believe is IUGR. I'm currently 36 weeks and baby is doing well. He seems to have weeks where he grows loads, and then a week where he doesn't grow as much as they expect him to.

They've had me in for growth scans every 2 weeks, and I go twice a week now for a doppler check of the blood flow and a scan of my fluid levels.

They should look after you at the hospital, and they'll talk you through your options when you're a bit further along.

They do seem to be a bit doom and gloom when I see the consultants, but as long as baby is growing and moving then he's happy enough in there for now!
