5+1 Ectopic?

I’ve just been to docs for a dull ache in the centre of my lower abdomen. No cramps or bleeding.
Doc did a urine test and that’s came back clear. Also prodded about and ruled out appendicitis.

She said it’s too early for them to scan me and I need to wait until 6 weeks (next Tuesday).

Has anyone any experience of ectopic pregnancy? What are the symptoms? Is there anything else that it could be?
Feeling really rubbish after my appointment. She was very stoney from the minute we walked in and gave zero counceling with the bad news she delivered. :(

Aches and pains can be really really normal in early pregnancy. They woke me up sometimes - they were that bad.

Ectopic: one sided pain in lower abdomen, slow hcg rise, shoulder tip pain.

Early pregnancy (and the rest of it!) is notoriously crampy and uncomfortable. It’s often just a sign of things stretching. It’s pretty worrying, in my opinion, but I normally try telling myself that, in the absence of bleeding or severe pain, it’s probably a good sign that my body is doing its job.

Ectopic pregnancy usually results in a one-sided pain. I had some of that at 5 weeks and then again at 6 weeks. It wasn’t severe, but I went to see a doctor anyway, as catching it early is safer than leaving it! Mine was more uncomfortable than expected when prodded. But it was all fine, even with the one-sided pain - the scan said that the baby was where it belonged.

Things for you to watch out for are one-sides pain, and bleeding. But most pregnancies aren’t ectopic, and it sounds like yours hasn’t shown any worrying signs.

Try to relax. (Insert hysterical laughter here.) There is an excellent chance that everything will be fine.

Thank you ladies. Some of this info from the Dr would have been good! She was just not interested what so ever x

I had spotting, stomach pain when prodding and shoulder pain and slow developing tests so epu rushed me in based on my symptoms. Baby was in the right place and I'm currently 15+4. Hope all is ok for you try to relax xxx

Mine was spotting, pain upon pressure on stomach, generally feeling strange and ill, shoulder pain.

I miscarried myself naturally before surgical management was needed. Had to just take tablets.

The main give away for me though was hcg not rising.

Notquiteagandt · 21/11/2018 16:40

Just to add this pregnancy I had the same. Was diagnosed pregnancy unknown location due to not showing on ultrasound. I had cramps and bleeding very early on.

Finally showed on scan as a tiny little egg sac in correct place at just under 6w.

Currently 27w. And shes running her feet down my ribs.

Good luck Flowers

What’s HCG? Is there a way I can measure it myself? x

Hi I'm new to this site but just looking for help..Hi I'm 5 weeks pregnant and started bleeding went to my doctors and was refferd to the EPAU the doctors took my blood tests and then came back at 91% Hcg 48hrs later only 115% then to 92 % had an internal scan and showed a miss shaped yolk sac that she said looked like was braking away. Obviously was devastated the doctors then said to come back in 2 weeks just in case they was wrong as they couldn't see anything in the yolk sac but as I'm only 5 weeks could just be very early, but said that's a very slim chance as my bloods was so low and I has been bleeding, I went hope and dealt with the fact I was having a failed pregnancy. 2 days after the bleeding has stopped blood tured brown then has completely stopped I haven't yet passes any tissue or blood clots and was told to expect to I have had no cramps at all just Gasy and constipated. Rang my midwife and she said fingers crossed that everything can be okay but surly not after everything hospital said??

Georgeofthejungle

Its the pregnancy hormone. It is in your blood. So blood tests are most accurate way to measure it. Should double every 48hrs.

TimeToRevolutionize · 21/11/2018 18:31

That is normal. I've had two ectopic, and when I got pregnant the third time, I had horrible pain in my side and of course I was thinking the worse - turns out it was a corpus luteum! Common during pregnancy but sometimes it can grow and burst which causes a lot of pain. Mine did burst and boy did it hurt! Try not to panic. If you really need peace of mind, I would get a private scan done. I got a private scan at 5 weeks which showed baby was in the right location, hence why I was worried about the pain in my side as I knew it was definitely not ectopic as it was ruled out. Hope all goes well for you and congratulations! Thanks

Darkstar4855 · 21/11/2018 18:35

@Georgeofthejungle I had sharp right sided pains and spotting at 5 weeks, a scan at 6 weeks showed a normal pregnancy with a visible heartbeat. The pain and spotting took a few weeks to settle but all turned out fine with the pregnancy.

The chances of an ectopic pregnancy are something like 1.3% which means a 98.7% chance yours isn’t, and central dull pain is less likely to be a sign of ectopic anyway. The waiting is horrible though. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

StargazyDrifter · 21/11/2018 19:46

My ectopic was diagnosed at 5w and the symptoms were: spotting, one sided lower abdomen pain, burning shoulder pain, feeling under the weather and tired (almost flu-like). They didn't do anything, did the 'wait and see' approach, scanning me regularly, and eventually the pregnancy miscarried and I was left with both tubes intact. This pregnancy (7w today) I convinced myself it was also ectopic and it wasn't - it was corpus luteum as a previous poster has said.

hCG is most reliably measured by blood tests, but if you get the Clearblue test that tells you how many weeks, you can sort of chart the hCG rise when it switches from 1-2 to 2-3 etc. You can look up on their website what that corresponds to hCG-wise, but the ranges are huge and it's only really useful as a way of confirming an overall upward trajectory.

All best to you and hope it's nothing to worry about.

Thank you everyone. I am feeling much better today and wondering if that coincides with me actually sitting on my bum and not running around doing a million things!

Feeling a bit more hopeful than I was when I left the docs so will just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait it out!

@annirx I can’t really help but if you post a new thread I’m sure there will be plenty people who can offer advice and experience x
