Should I eat even though I've had dinner etc?

14 weeks and a bit and basically I'm really quite hungry, despite full dinner and several biscuits (bad, I know), I really want two boiled eggs and two slices of toast but don't know if I should eat so much at this time, I'm just on the verge of becoming overweight (one pound extra and I will be) and whilst I'm not trying to diet, I don't want to eat unnecessarily. I know putting on weight is normally inevitable in pregnancy, I'm not worried about that but I do know being overweight can cause complications in labour. That all said, should I eat the eggs on toast or have toast and some melon?

If you’re genuinely hungry then I’d definitely have something to eat. Maybe 1 egg and 1 toast if you’re worried about overeating or how late it is?

superram · 20/11/2018 22:17

At if you need to but remember you only need about 200 extra calories in the third trimester so you don’t need two dinners now. I still have 3 stone of baby weight to lose and my eldest child is 9....,,

Mumof1andacat · 20/11/2018 22:18

Do you have other health concerns?

StarfishSandwich · 20/11/2018 22:19

Drink a pint of water. If you still feel hungry after that, you genuinely need food but often I find it’s just thirst.

Merrydoula · 20/11/2018 22:32

I out in a total of 3 stone during pregnancy. I lost 1.5 stone in less than a week after having the baby. I would say don't worry too much and enjoy yourself, however, remember that you out on a lot of weight at the end, and if your anything like me, you'll be CONSTANTLY EATING at the end too. Save some weight gain for then!

If you are genuinely hungry then eat the toast and egg. Your body is telling you what it needs.

An Egg is about 80 calories and nice filling protein so not a bad choice. Toast not as great but who can resist. Blush If regularly hungry at this time check you are drinking enough as pp said, and maybe look at what your meals are consisting of in general to make sure you are not to high in carbs that (for me at least) mean I get hungry later on. As someone that polished off some Jaffa cakes earlier I cannot really speak from a place of righteousness on this topic however....

SoftSheen · 20/11/2018 22:40

Nothing wrong with toast if it is wholegrain!

5tarlight · 20/11/2018 22:49

Sorry yes you're right, for me it would be white bread and swimming in butter, I forget other people may have a healthier version 😂.

MadeForThis · 20/11/2018 23:22

I used to regularly eat toast and cheese before I went to sleep as I was so hungry.

Also sometimes woke up at stupid o'clock and had to go and make toast as I was so hungry and couldn't sleep.

If your body is hungry, eat.

You're pregnant. You need to look after yourself.

I had to start eating before going to bed because I would wake up with a headache around 4 am. The only thing that helped was food. I got that very sage advice from my DSister.

I usually had toast with jam or cheese and crackers.

I went through a phase of being hungry and eating loads around 13-15 weeks. I was worried that I was going to pile on the weight but actually my appetite went back to normal after that.

I did lose weight in the first trimester due to nausea and food aversions so I wondered if it was just my body trying to “catch up” on calories because of that.

Angelmiracle · 21/11/2018 13:52

I tried to fit this feeling of hunger by going to bed but ended up getting out of bed with gurgling tummy and making it even later on. And as others have said it may be temporary because I'm 21 weeks now and on the past 4 weeks can fit nothing more in after dinner no night hunger pangs!

SoftSheen · 21/11/2018 19:54

I never eat anything after dinner, but with both my pregnancies I got incredibly hungry for about 2 weeks around the 20 week mark, and would get up around 4 am and have cereal. Then go back to bed, and have a second breakfast later around 7.30 am Grin
